Interceptor on Pregnant bitch? kandy has been bred to Ceeby. karen, the person I got her from, says she gives her the Interceptor no matter what. I asked if it was safe for her. My vet also declared it safe for pregnant bitches. i truly believe that the flea medicine he recommended for Silk caused her baby to be deformed and die. So, naturally, I am very concerned about giving kandy the heartworm medicine. He said Interceptor is thee only one that is safe and this is what karen has always had her on. What do you other breeders say about it? |

Sugar, Ill tell ya what to do and not bat an eye. DONT give it. Just play it safe. I did my own study, not on Interceptor but another one. Im not sure who does these studies, but I do not believe them at all. I spoke to the animal health dept, and the vet read me the insert.........I had already read it...They just kept repeating........our research does not support defects......they sounded like a recording...........but they did take the report..........but I never felt satisfied.........to me it was like talking to a piece of cardboard. Some do cause birth defects. My advice to you is keep your dog chemical free, let them outdoors, but in the day, to best avoid mosquitoes. Just feed them well, give lots of love, and if they have flea problems give advantage, I never had a problem with it with my prego girls. |

I was just thinking..... What "natural" ingredient has been used on puppies before these other current meds came into existence? Seems to me there has to be something that would not put the puppy at as much risk...... Why dont you get one of those books that state natural treatments for many different ailments..... Just a thought |
OK, so here is a question. Just out of curiosity, why don't you treat the female with frontline, before breeding her. |

Has anyone ever used Yucca shampoo for fleas?? I use a Shampoo that has Yucca extract in it and it is safe to use on the youngest of puppies since it is not a chemical and I have never had a problem with fleas!! I had a friend who had a pup with fleas and I used this on her and it got rid of the fleas - you just concentrate it a little more for fleas and it leaves their coats so soft. Just a thought:D |
[QUOTE=thedocta]can a female in her first heat be breed[/QUOTE can but shouldn't be. If the female is eighteen months old or something like that, then I think it is okay to breed her. |

If you use Dawn dishsoap it will kill the fleas that are on her at that time. We treat our others and just washed Zaylee with Dawn - I was too worried to put the flea stuff on her! |

I've never had any problem w/ Interceptor nor Ivermectin... and my pet's babies were always perfect when they were born... and I just wanna say, about FrontLine, that it doesn't go to the bloodstrem it spreds through skin's fat and base of the fur, so at max it could cause an allergy but not a miscarrige or defectuous fetus... I hope it could be of any help... Anyway, how about talking to another Vet and see what he/she's got to say? Kisses from Maggie and I... |
