i need an answer you guys have seen me mention my friend here in town that breeds yorkies. the one I started to buy from then changed my mind because i didn't like the looks of her pups. Well, she bred her bitch the same day I bred kandy, September 15th. She just called in a panic and I can't help her because i don't know. She had her dog crated until yesterday. She thought she was out of heat because her male hadn't even sniffed so she had left her out. She walked to the mailbox and came back in and they were tied. This is twelve days since the first breeding. She called and asked me what to do because she knows I come here and have been researching for a long time. I don't know what to tell her to do or what will happen because I've never seen this on here before. She is on her way over here now to see what you guys have to say. She wants to go to the vet now and have him give her medicine so she won't have pups at all. I am scared for her little female also. What on earth will happen to her? My husband said she would have dead puppies because of the time span. i think so too but don't know how to console her. have any of you breeders ever had this happen. i keep telling her she needs to be on top of things and she thought she was. Now this? Oh my goodness!!!!!!!!! She is getting me upset too. I know she is not overreacting tho. This is serious. the only thing I could think of to tell her was that she probably will need to get xrays a week before the due date and probably will need a section or lose her bitch. This lady has been breeding for years and never had anything like this happen. she should know way more than I do. Can you help me know what to say when she gets here. |
come and gone. My friend has come and gone. I just told her to call the vet in the morning. Thanks anyway. |
bitch I would not be panicked...12 days is a long time..and because of that it is unlikely any eggs were still viable. I have had stud services where the owner insisted I rebreed 10/14 days later when the bitch was still standing and flagging..nothing I said convinced them it was not necessary...and nothing resulted from these late breedings..all the litters arrived from the earlier proper breedings. Some bitches can remain swollen for longer then others and they will still stand for the male even though they are not actually in full heat. |

They don't necessarilly have more pups due to breeding more times. Only the eggs available can be fertilized. I had a panic like that once also....nothing resulted from it. All the pups were uniform in size. That she is that worried does show how much she cares. |

What did the vet say to her? I know someone who breeds and they let the male and female together once she is ready and don't know exactly which dates and how many times they breed. They tend to loose puppies....they can have pups in the same litter that were fertilized at different times. It is safe to do what you advised....keep them apart after YOU are done choosing when they breed until she is no longer willing. |

This gal should have known that but it is my understanding that she really did think the heat was over and had been over two or three days. she seems to lose pups out of each litter though for some reason. She had never heard of some of the things I have told her that I have learned on here. I think that is why she turned to me but i didn't know for sure. |
I was one that said what your first paragraph said. I knew it sounded like the opposite on my next post, but it really isn't. It can go either way...all depends on the eggs. I hope that her later breeding didn't take and that everything turns out fine. Please let us know when the pups do come how everything went. |
