May I bathe Libby or too stressful? I would like to bathe Libby, but I do not want to stress her since she is due to have her pups between 9/18 and 9/21. Would love some feedback because I do not want to do anything to upset her. Thanks! |
Does she get overly stressed at bath time? If not, I bath my pregnant girl all the time. Just make sure to rinse, rinse, rinse. |
Libby does not get overly stressed until I bathe her head. If I go ahead I will have to be very gentle. She is not fond of having her head wet. I think I will be careful not to use a lot of shampoo that requires so much rinsing. Just a light bath, if such a thing is possible! LOL |
I just use a wash cloth on the head and face. I cover the ears with one hand so absolutely no water gets in them (even push them completely down if I have to). The wash cloth gets those eye boogers out nicely too. After cleaning the face, rinse the wash cloth out then cup water in your hand with the cloth laying flat on your plam. It is soooo much easier. |
I bathe Trixie, but she does not mind getting a bath. She's not too fond of riding in the car though, so I try to keep her out of there. |
"If" my girls are dirty I will bathe them a few days prior to whelp. I also cleanse their tummy with an alcohol wipe prior to the whelp date. I don't think it stresses them out if it's done properly. Just run a warm SHALLOW bath, gently put her in, and maybe only bathe her back side. Leave her face and head alone for now. Plenty of time for that later after the babies arrive! Best wishes, |
I always bath my girls before they deliver, and I have bathed many clients dogs and have never sent anyone into labor. Best of luck to you!!! Debbie Ray www.sumtoiyorkies.com |
I always bathe about 5 -7 days before whelping and then don't bathe again until at least two weeks past whelping, usually three weeks to give the cervix time to close. Until then I just wipe down with a warm rag and a bowl of water. |
