Whats the purpose to remove the dewclaws? I did this today but dont even know why I had them removed other than thats what people want. Why do some only remove the back and not the front? Why do people have all of them removed? I only had the back ones removed. My vet said the front ones were to hard to get to. Is that ok just to have the back ones removed? I also have another question. Why does AKC have a standard to have short tails when that is not how a Yorkie is born? Shouldnt AKC want a Yorkie to be what thwy are? Why do they want to change what the breed really looks like. Can you tell I am not in a good mood tonight lol! I absolutly hated going to the vets office today. |
I have all the dew claws removed on my pups. My vet has never said that the front ones are harder to get to. He just does it all. I don't think there is a real reason for the dog to have them and most pet owners foget about them and the nails grow long and curl back into the dogs paw. Also it is harder to groom a dog with dewclaws. Sorry you had a rotten expereince at the vet. I hope your evening gets better. |
claws Yorkies rarely have back claws, but it happens and they need to be removed..back ones cause alot of problems. I find the front need to be removed also..many pet owners forget to clip the nail..as a retired groomer I have had to remove an ingrown nail from the poor dogs leg more then once..makes grooming easier and no fear of the nail getting caught on things and being ripped out..had that happen to a Doxie. |
My vet said the front ones were to hard to get to. I have never heard a vet say they couldn't do the front dew claws. I do my own and have never had a problem... Debbie Ray www.sumtoiyorkies.com |
