heating pad question When can I shut off the heating pad? Do I have to wait longer than the 3 days that it takes the puppies to regulate there own heat? THank You! |
I leave my heating pad on low for the first 3 weeks until I move the puppies into a larger area to be able to walk around in.:) |
I leave the heating pad on under half the whelping box until they are big enough to climb out of it usually about 3-4 weeks and if it's a cool season..I move it with them to the playpen so they have a warm spot to snuggle if they'd like..so it's on 'til they leave at 12 weeks. |
I am pretty sure it's closer to 3 weeks before they can regulate not three days. I do leave on the heating pad on low until about 4 or 5 weeks, but I live in a very warm climate. If it was winter I would probably leave it on longer. |
I always let the heating pad on low and out it under the whelping box with newspapers in between. I left it until they could move off of it by them selves. Make sure the mom can move to a spot in the whelping box if she gets too warm. Funny how I'm always afraid to use a heating pad all night, yet leave one on for a month straight under puppies. lol Kind of sad. I just spayed my last breeding female. We travel more now and have fallen in love with the smaller yorkies who can go with us. We have place our larger females, except one who is our daughters officially now. |
