Dew ckaws growing back!!!!!!!!! We have cut Little Fancypants dew claws off twice. the first time she was four days old and we did it with her tail. About a week after that, we saw they were growing back aand my hubby did them again and cut really close. Now she is two weeks and three days old and them suckers are growing back again. It didn't hurt her at all the last time and he is wanting to do it again but I say it will hurt her too much. What do you think? Should we or should we not cut them off again? Thanks |
After trying twice, I'd leave them. The older they get the more they are prone to feel pain. |
Sadie is 2 1/2 yrs old and one of hers grew back..kinda deformed though and Lillie will be 12 wks old saturday and I've noticed one of hers is starting to grow back as well |
that's what we decided on. I am planning on keeping her anyways unless she is a ten pounder by the time she is ready to go. LOL at the rate she is growing, she may well be. I have two, three pounders and two five pounders so i don't know how well a totally huge gal will fit in. |
IT'S ALIVE!!! :D I'd leave them alone. :) |
claws You might be seeing just the stub that needs a few weeks of healing, not a few days...a claw that was cut at 4 days would not have time to start to regrow a week later...unless you just snipped the nail itself, which I am sure you did not do...sometimes they look like a big bump before all the healing takes place.. |
This is the reason I leave it to my vet to do. I would ask your vet about it. |
claws The reason I started doing delcaws myself was the bad result from the vet..seriously, I loved my MD vet, but he took a 3 yr break and the other vets cut and stitiched. So I started doing what my "retired" vet did...All I do is clamp and remove..no stitching..perhaps 1 in 25 grow back..but they are always very tiny and give no trouble. |

it is bumps we are feeling but the second time we cut it closer. As far as leaving it to our vet, he is great but my husband has about thirty five years experience in breeding and training. As you can guess, many, many dew claws have been cut off during this time. |
