How do you tell them apart?
 
How do you tell your new babies apart? I've heard of some using different colored nail polish on their backs, but wouldn't that be bad if mom licked it off? What do you use?:confused:

I am not sure with little yorkies but the lady I got Max from put different color ribbon on them...maybe you could paint just one toe nail....:)

I was going to paint toe nails too but...they are microscopic!! I put it on the back of their heads - mom's can't really lick it off if you wait til it dries to put them back with her, which doesn't take long! And just make sure it is a non toxic one! I am afraid of them getting caught on something with the ribbon/string and the polish lasts a good long time!:D

I've seen people use a colored yarn around the tail or neck. I've known people to use a dot of polish. We got lucky...2 boys, 2 girls. One girl had pink on her nose, one didn't. One male was EXTREMELY fat the other was the smallest. They all looked very different....to me anyway.:)

I use different color rickrack from the fabric store. I get some tiny safety pins to fasten the rickrack on like a collar for the tiny ones. Then use pliers to permanently squeeze the safety pins closed so that they can't come open. This way when mom is moving them around, cleaning them, pups are playing, whatever, the safety pins can't come open. Then when the rickrack gets dirty, or when I need to change it because they've outgrown it and it needs to be replaced, I just snip it off with scissors and cut another length off of the roll of rickrack and start with another strand and another safety pin that will be smashed shut. I used red, yellow, blue, green, and purple for my last litter. Really cheap, stays on really well, stays pretty clean, lasts for a while (around a week).

All 4 of the ones in Peyton's litter had different white markings on their chests. Courtney could tell them apart by the marking on their chest. She called Tank the one with the cat before we named him because his shape looks like a cat. He kind of acts like a cat now...go figure huh?

When my Chloe had pups I put different colored fingernail polish on the inside of their ears.Chloe never bothered them at all.
