Thanks! That is such a great idea:thumbup: . How many times a day do you think I should do that? I just gave the littlest pup a couple of drops of milk replacer. Do you think that is enough. I just cant emagine her eating more than that. |

Yes that is the proud mommy! |
Thank you everyone for your replies. Amber is doing so good. She actually looks better now than she has for a while. I am so happy that she has her appitiete (sp) back. She is eating like a champion! She is such a great mommy you can tell she is so proud. And the puppies are soooo adorable. They are all eating really good as well. Except the littlest one. She is having a hard time latching on :( . I am really worried about her. Hmmm now for names. Any ideas? I will post pictures in a little bit. |
The rule of thumb is 1 cc per ounce of body weight for total handfeeding. 1 cc equal 1 ml and there are 5 ml in a teaspoon so she should be eating about 1/4 of a teaspoon 8 times a day (every 3 hours), if she isn't getting anything from Mom. She can only get and receive immunity from Mom during the first 24 to 48 hours so it is important that she nurses from Mom also at this time, if at all possible. I'm just guessing here, because it will really depend on how much milk Mom is producing and how the pups' weight gain is going. I think I would start out supplementing no more than 3 times a day. If one is losing weight or lagging behind the others than I would increase that particular pups feedings. You said the littlest pup is having trouble latching on - does any milk come out of her nose (indication of a cleft palate) while feeding? |
Yay!! 6 puppies holy hannah thats a big litter!! Hopefully the little one will latch on...I cant imagine what a yorkie newborn would look like they must be as big as mice lol...awwwwwww How much does mommy weigh? Dawn |
How does everyone mark there babies to tell them apart? I was not expecting this many pups so I thought it would not be to difficult. But I am having a hard time figuring out who is who in the order of birth. Dawn, Pre pregnancy weight Amber weighs 5 1/2 pounds. Toby the stud weighs 3 pounds. |
