My Female just gave birth My female just had one pup a baby boy. Only 1 this time. he is little and cute. She has had up to four in a litter and as small as 3 in a litter. has anyone else had a litter of just one? Also I was thinking of leaving the tail. Do any of you ever leave the tail alone? I sell mine as pets APR not akc. what do you think? Should I dock it or leave it? |
:) Congratulations on the one baby boy. I never saw a Yorkie with a long tail. I bet they look cute. I guess it's up to you. Good luck in whatever you deceide. |
Congratulations! I'm sure it'll look gorgeous tail or not. Has to be docked for showing, but if your not I certainly would if you wanted to. Be sure to keep your singleton warm, I'm sure mommy will. My 3 "dogpile" as I'm sure you know already. Congrats on a healthy birth! |
I personally would have it docked unless you already have someone lined up to adopt him and they don't mind having a long tail on their pup. I found it is harder to place them in good homes if their tails aren't done. People have a picture in their head of what a yorkie looks like and it usually doesn't include a long tail. Cograts on your new pup. I also had a litter of 1 after litters of 4. (It wasn't a yorkie litter though.) Just make sure to keep the pup warm with not having bothers and sisters to cuddle with they get cooler quicker. Good luck.:animal-pa |
BTW I agree with what Kitty said concerning docking and placing a pup if that's what you're going to do. But if you plan on keeping the pup as your pet and you're sure about that you could leave it. Don't let it get too late though to dock it especially if you think you may place it. Most buyers want a yorkie with a docked tail. |
Keep the tail. I love when the hair growns out on the tail, they look so cute! Both Roxy and TJ have their tails, I love them! :D |
Congratulations on your litte pup. Are you selling or keeping? Let us know what you do about the tail. Good luck.:) |
docking is the breeder's preference. Personally, I prefer docked...but that's just me. Yes, I've heard of only 1 in a litter. How long ago did she have her last litter? |
Thank you for the input. I will have his tail docked. |

Congratulations on your little furbaby!!! I have a Yorkie that the Vet says (2 1/2 wks ago) he is 98% sure she is pregnant. I am not so sure now, she has all the signs of pregnancy but her belly is not growing. (She is due in 2 weeks - Sept 14th - on her birthday) I have been told by others maybe she only has one puppy. Did your female have small belly when she was pregnant. Did your female carry the pup in the rib cage area or in the belly? Can you please give me your input? Lexi goes in for X-Ray middle of next week. Thanks, Kim |
