What day to mate??? I wanted to know what day i should start breeding my female. I have looked through out the internet and found several different days they should mate like day 9, 13, 16??? I also heard you should wait till the bleeding stops. Last time she was in heat she bled for over 2 weeks. I'm so confused. I payed a stud fee 6 months ago and my yorking didnt get pregnant even though they got stuck 3 times. she is in heat again and I want to make sure I didnt pass my window of opportunity again. :confused: :confused: |
A female is usually receptive between Days 10 and 15 from the start of her heat. By Day 10 the discharge should be straw colored, not red. I would suggest you breed every other day to give the male time to regenerate. Since my male is onsite I let them pick the starting day, but usually it is Day 10 and then I breed again on Day 12 and Day 14 keeping them apart on the days in between. With them tying 3 times last heat and no pregnancy, I think there is probably more of a problem than timing (unless you mean they tied 3 times in one day). |
when they tied last heat, from what i can remember, i think it was after day 16 and like 22 my yorkie bled for days and i waited till the discharge was pink. i remember thinking it was a long time from the first day of her heat cycle. this was her second heat. the first i noticed she bled over 2 weeks then also. i will try on day 10. i was so excited last time and then to find out by the vet she was not pregnant was heartbreaking. id like to think i am more prepared this time. thank you so much for your help |
Every dog is diff. and the normal is about the 10th day. If you really want to make sure you don't miss it againyou can take her to the vet and get a smear. They can tell for SURE if she's ready. |
is getting a smear expensive??? i did ask a vet last time if there was a way he can check and he pretty much told me no. |
:rolleyes: Do you have a seasoned breeder that you are working with and learning from. Maybe they could help you determine the best time if you feel her...'timing?' is something other than the norm. We had tests done to determine our females' most fertile times. I think price will vary from vet to vet...but then again, breeding in general is not exactly cheap. |

Sometimes pups are re-absorbed. If your female doesn't get pregnant this time, there is probably an infertility problem. Dogs can also have false pregnancies. |
