Iodine on cord? Someone on here said toget iodine to put on the puppy's cord when it is cut. I haven't seen that on any whelping sites I've looked at. Do you put the iodine on the end of the cord immediately after cutting it? Doesn't mom lick it right back off? |
We cut the cords and Dori then immediately chewed the cord a little shorter, so it wouldn't have done much good to have used the betadine. |
I always have used iodine, but with this last delivery we had a placenta that didn't pass so I asked the vet and he said, no, just keep everything as clean as possible. |
lacy So would you recommend not using the betadine at all? BTW,, i heard two very distinct heartbeats last night. one on each side. The previous owner said Silk only has two at a time. She might bee right this time, too. I can't wait. |
We used it...just a very small amount. Mom didn't lick it back off. (And NO, it's not toxic unless she drinks a whole bottle or so.;) ) To tell you the truth though, I don't know what difference it would make. |

This was true for us as well. |
I have done it for years so I know there isn't any harm in using it, but I guess it's probably not necessary according to my vet, if the pups are kept in a clean environment. |
