What do you know about Jarbeth Kennels in Missouri?
 

I have found a beautiful little yorkie girl that I am considering purchasing from a breeder that is located in Missouri. The name of the breeder is the Jarbeth Kennels. Have any of you heard about them? I'd like to know if this is a safe, reputable breeder. Thank you so much for your help!

Red Flags..1. Multiple breeds for sale
2. Location...MO is well known for being one of the worst states for puppy mills.
3. They admit that this is an 'industry' for them.

I recommend finding a breeder that is closer to your area that you can go visit, see the parents and the condition the pups are raised in. Pups raised in a facility are not well socialized to a normal household environment...

I have lived in Missouri for the past 4 years now and I haven't heard anyone admit to being a puppy mill or that puppies are an industry here. That maybe so but I haven't heard it. LOL

That said, I have to agree with Sylvan. Find some place close enough to go see the puppy. It's worth it if you have to wait a little longer. I promise if you ask enough questions you will be happy with your new baby. Sylvia

19 pages of this 80 page list of all the USDA registered kennels are for kennels located in Missouri. That is nearly 1/4 of all the listings for the US, so I think you can say that this is an industry for this state, admitted or not.

I don't think anyone would have the "GUTS" to admit to being a puppymill! with that said....There is a place around where I live called the "puppy patch"...isn't that a cute name for a place that sells puppymill puppies!! I know..did ALOT of investigating before I got my first yorkie...anyway..they were very nice to me in the beginning until I started asking questions...like "are these puppies from local breeders?" I guess they didn't like that question...they weren't as nice to me after that...anyway they told me "no" they are not from local breeders that they are, flown in from or, they go and pick them up in vans from the mid western states...MO was one of the states that was mentioned...so I would say IMO, STAY AWAY!! I know how it feels to want one of these little furballs of love but, if you could find a local breeder where you can see the parents or...we have breeders on this site...just do lots of research...you don't want to end up with a sick baby

WOW!!!! I knew I lived a secluded life but I never would have guessed there was that many in one state let alone Missouri. I don't know where Arkansas stands in that list but we've been thinking of moving down there. Might be a good idea, huh? Sylvia

There are some wonderful reputable breeders in the state of WA. Have you contacted AKC or gone on to the YTCA website breeder referral? Mary

I would stay away from anyone who has that many dogs for sale because it is a business for them. You do not know if the dogs are taken care of, getting the right Vet care, or house in the backwoods of missouri in cages, shacks..etc
Yes, Missouri is the worst state for being a puppymill state.
And it's all thanks to the HUNTE'S corp (the biggest puppy broker in the US) and Gov.Matt blunt who supports puppymill farming.
I'd like to see them both run out of town.
With that being said ..It's not fair to lump all missourian breeders in this class. ..you just have to be more cautious who you buy from.
All states have puppymills.
you just need to pick a hobby breeder or a good kennel who's soul income is not from breeding all kinds of different dogs..but find one who breed only 1 or 2 breeds.
Make sure they have a good understand of the breed, one who will answer all your questions, and ask you several too.
A good breeder will be concerned with who there pup is going to be with and not in it for just the sale.
If any breeder says they have never had any problems in there lines ..RUN.
All breeders at one time or another have.
Unless they are just starting out.
When a breeder find something in the line they will correct it...
Not keep breeding the problem.

Granted pups raised in a facility (sometimes) are not as well socialized to a normal household environment.
Maybe and maybe not..depends on the facility.
and how much day today interaction they get.
and how old the pup is.
Young puppies adapt to there environment rather easily.
An unsocialized pup can also be due to a genetic makeup.
My first chose would be a good reputable home hobby breeder but, does not mean I would not buy from a good reputable kennel.

I also would never buy a 7,500 dollar dog..you can find some every nice pups in the 1,500 dollar range just keep looking...good luck in finding your furbaby.

i know MO has a puppy mill problem but thats not what they are
it is a bussiness to them breeding good quality dogs and finding homes for them i know the family personaly and while this is bussiness its not motivated bye the need for profit they take time in finding good homes for there dogs they dont ship them off to pet stores the reason they have a lot breeds is becuse they have allowed there older childern to lern about breeding and pick on or two breeds they liked to study and then breed them and they live in rural MO becuse they are very religous

they have spent most of there lives speartly and as a family fostering puppies kitttens squirrels wild birds once even wild bunnies for the aspca and strays they found

they are NOT a puppy mill they ARE good people who love animals and love teaching there kids about them

and every puppy dose have time with the family in groups and bye its self I my self have help feed horses with a puppy tucked in my coat or gone hiking with two runts in hand

I bought two puppies fro jarbeth kennels.I picked them up.One westie,and one bolinoodle.I went to the house and was shown about six pups,in a very neat house by a whole passel of happy polite kids.This family really impressed me,you drive down a long road,past there barns and pens with all kinds of animals.All healthy looking.This was not a red neck operation,but a well organised one run by some very capable people.The lady in charge was very really.The puppies we bought we took them back to her for there second shots which she gave free.I and my wife are both 83,and I told her we are either crazy or optimist to have two new puppies but they have added spark to life and we love them. Beth the lady who sold us the puppies been a lot of help,and I know someone with a operation like her,and a bunch of happy polite kids who actually do a lot of the work could be anything but on the level.Thanks Carl

i have been looking at this website for awhile Home and she only has yorkies that are in her home very pretty yorkies one day when my puppy is a little older i might get another from her

Hmmm...if she ONLY has Yorkies, then how did she end up with a mutt litter? :rolleyes: Actually, the site shows that she has Malteses too...and is cross breeding dogs. Automatic thumbs down, IMO, without even considering any of the other factors.
