Autumn's Maternity Ward We are definitely having pups. Mom is a 5.5 pound yorkie and Dad is a 6 pound Maltese. We are due on August 25, so nine days and counting. Today I did something I had never thought of before LOL I used my stethescope and listened to Autumn's heart and then I moved to her tummy to listen for pups and we heard FOUR seperate pup heart beats! Two on each side. I thought maybe I heard a fifth one, but they had moved around so I can't be sure if I counted one of them twice. We have an appointment with her dogtor tomorrow at 4:15 so we will find out then I hope! :dogsm3: |
HOORAY!! how exciting!! nine days isnt that long, |
too exciting. i love yorkie-maltese mix's. they look like biewers which are so beautiful. i cant wait to see the little pups. what was her tie date? |
June 23 was her tie date. I counted 63 days from then to get her due date and then I used the site someone on here suggested to double check and it gave me the same due date. :D |
wow...muffie tied on 21st of june, this will be her first litter. |
Congratulations! We will be gramma's around the same time then! How many is Muffie expecting? |
 Ok, so we went to the vet and he didn't do an x-ray  I was upset because Autumn's normal dogtor wasn't in today. I wish they would have told me ahead of time cuz I would have rescheduled. The regular assistant was there and she said I can call her when Autumn goes in to labor and she had already set up Autumn's post-partum appointment. The fill in doc said he felt four definite pups, possibly a fifth. I told him no CRAP because I can hear their little hearts beating and I know I have counted FIVE seperate heart beats in FIVE seperate places in Autumn's little tummy but I wasn't sure if the fifth one was my counting the same pup twice because they had moved some. What I was looking to find out was if there are definitely five or not. So at this point we know we are expecting four or five pups and I know that I am going to call her regular dogtor and explain how I do NOT like his fill in dr! Today Autumn has been sleeping and still eating good and was enjoying some belly rubs. She has been sucking up the belly rubs that is for sure! and sticking close to her little box. |
Oh and the fill in crackpot said since she isn't showing any signs of complications he didn't feel an x-ray was necessary. |
how is autumn doing? |
She is good. Sleeping a lot. When she walks she waddles everywhere and still eating and drinking good. |
Autumn lost her mucus plug yesterday!! Today she just sipped a little bit of water and she has been wanting to lay around alot but can't seem to get comfortable. |
have you taken her temp yet? |
Her temp has been fluctuating between 99.8 and 100.4 |
ohhh coming soon!!! |
We are on PUPPY WATCH!!! Autumn's temp this morning is 98.5!! |
morkies, goodie How exciting! I'll be keeping an eye out, I just had my first litter as well, a Morkie litter. Dad is a Yorkie and Mom Maltese. So I'm excited to see your Morkies. I had 3 precious females. The first one was dark like a yorkie with a moderate amount of tan and white. The next was likewise but darker, the next one was even darker. So I've named them light, medium and dark. Now, the hard job is to try not to get attached. Lacy contractions started coming around 12-18 hours after dropping into 98 degrees around 11:00 at night. Once she starts, it'll go pretty quickly. Good luck to you, I'm sure thing's will go smoothly. I'll be watching your babies progress. |
Ill be keeping an eye on this thead. I hope the whelping gooes smoothly for you |
Well I have already taken some pre-cautions LOL I called our vets office and let them know her temp had dropped and so they are on "stand by" you could say. We have a plan in place incase there is an emergency and I have a friend who I can go to for help in case I need help during the whelp but it doesn't constitute an emergency trip to the vet. So far she is still in stage one labor and has spent most of the morning sleeping. She has got up a couple times to go potty and then right back to her nap. The puppies are active and I can hear there little hearts beating strong! |
Yorktese or Morkie right? I cant wait to see pics of your babies!! They are such a cute mix..do you have pics of your maltese? Dawn |

I don't but I can get some LOL He is my father in laws maltese but he lives right next door. We call them Yorktese because the mom is a yorkie and the dad is the maltese. Just our personal choice. I have my camera ready for the babies so hopefully I will have pictures to post soon! |
good luck....i will be watching for updates |
AUTUMNS WATER JUST BROKE!!!!! I will update you all after everything is all done! talk to everyone later! |
Well Autumn had four puppies...all boys...but we lost two. One wasn't fully formed and the other ones placenta had detatched itself too soon. Autumn went to see her vet and he gave her an oxytocin shot just incase there were any more pups and a penicillan shot to stave off infection. |
Congratulations on the puppies!!!! I am sorry you lost two but it does happen. Just concentrate on keeping the two surviving puppies alive and healthy! Where are the pictures, we would love to see pictures!!! |
Congrats on the little ones. Post pics when you can. |
Oh I am sorry. I was so stressed out because there was some complications that I haven't taken pics. Well, I have two of the two boys, but we just got mom to settle down with them and be willing to let them nurse. So far this whole day was spent making sure mom was ok and that these two were able to latch on and the first two feedings we had to force her to lay down and nurse them. At one point I was so freaked out and worried that I would lose my Autumn. The trip to the vet wasn't even scheduled. So sure I was that her labor had stopped with another pup inside her that I just packed up her and pups up and hauled butt to the vets office and walked in and said LOOK...he was very understanding. I had already called him at home that morning. Because of the early seperation of the placentas she had some gross discharge but he took care of that too. He also did a pelvic exam and said he found no more pups. He palpitated her tummy and said he really thinks she had them all but I am sure there might still be one more (you don't argue with a mom who is concerned for her furkid!) This whole experience has made my mind up on one thing...Autumn is getting spayed!!! As soon as it is feasable to do so with the pups. |
