How can I tell if my yorkie boy has "dropped"? I have a yorkie boy who is about 4, 4 1/2 months old and I'm just wondering what age do they usually drop? This is my first yorkie and I want to get into breeding in the next couple of years. My husband said that there is a "bulge" down there and that he's going to drop soon but then again my husband has never bred toy dogs either. This is my own little project, lol. Anyways, he has become very friendly with one of his stuffed animals lately too. Also, what is the best way to get into breeding? I know everyone has to start somewhere, but I'm not sure where. My Quincy is AKC and I have full registration privileges with him, but most of the websites I have been on for breeders in my area have spay/neuter contracts or limited registration. Do I just keep looking until I find the right female to pair him with? Any advice would be appreciated. I don't really know anyone else with experience. (I live in CA, in the bay area.) |
I would advise that you search and find a breeder that is willing to mentor you. You would be surprised at how willing some would be...it can be a win win situation. They get help and you get knowledge. Once you show that you are serious and that your intentions are good, you'll be shocked at the support and help you'll recieve from established breeders. You'll also be surprised at how much more you'll know as a breeder yourself from the experience. Perhaps a vet could help point you in the right direction? |
Thats a good idea, maybe I can ask my vet about it. The only thing is that I don't think there are any breeders in my area. To get quincy I had to go about an hour away. I never thought about that though, and yes I really want to do things right and become a reputable breeder. I am going to start out small and just go from there. |
Peeka is 14 weeks and both his tests have dropped down my vet checked for me. Good luck with the breeding and a mentor sounds like a great idea |
