x ray mommie to be ???????? my muffie is due to deliver in about a week and half. of course, reading thru all of the threads, it is stated they should have a x-ray. i just called my vet to set this up and they acted like i was CRAZY. they have never heard of x-raying a mommie to be. this vet office has been around since i was a child and it is where my family took our dogs. so my question is....is my vet not puppy friendly....or do i really need to have a x-ray done? this is very frustrating for me. and and and....why do they care if i want this done? they are getting paid for an easy service. please give me your advise. thanks so much |

what about an ultarsound? some places do xray and they can tell how many puppys by counting the skulls but that also leads to radioactive exposure or something like that. |

That's what I found out... meaning that I found out here about doing the x-rays. For my dogs, it wasn't their first litter, so I wasn't as concerned about having one done. Especially since my vet thought I was nuts! lol However, when they were whelping, it would have been nice to know when they were done. But, I see that lots of people only estimate how many there are anyway. My conclusion... I'm just not sure about this x-ray thing... How's that for an answer? lol |
Try calling Dr. David Morris on Pleasure House Rd. He is a very up to the minute vet, I cannot say enough good things about him. |

x-rays are VERY useful..it will let you know how many pups, so you know when she is done with whelping and there is no risk of one more in there with a possible problem that you didn't know about until it is too late. I asked my last vet if they did x-rays or ultrasounds for pregnant females and he said no and they did not have the equipment to do so. He said he could tell how many puppies the mother was carrying and had no problems with the mother's delivering. He also said that all the pregnant females he dealt with were not planned breedings but were all the results of "accidents". Needless to say, I have a different vet now, one that is well educated on breeding and whelping and can do x-rays and ultrasounds if that is what I want. If I were you, I would look for a new vet, one that could accommodate all of your pregnant female's needs. |

Now that I think about it, I actually did have an x-ray done on a Great Dane when my 2 year old daughter fed her my wedding ring! It took 3 x-rays to cover the digestive tract! I had laid my rings on the table and when I went back they weren't there. I asked my 2 year old where Mommy's rings were and she said, "Duchess eat". :eek: She was always intrigued with the diamonds and was always feeding Duchess so I assume she was showing her and Duchess thought it was food. Anyway, I did eventually get my rings back (gross) and am more careful where I place them! |
