Question about Breeding?? Hi All, this is my first time to post. Glad to get some advice from others who love Yorkies! I have a male Yorkie who will be 3 in Sept. He is 4 lbs. My family is considering getting a female, and possibly breeding in the future. (When the female is old enough.) My question is will breeding my male change him? I am absolutely in love with my baby (Tobias, we call him Tobi) and if his personality changed it would kill me. He is really like my 2nd kid. Thanks for the info, really appreciate it! |
I can't speak for everyone, but I can say that yes, it did change our stud. He went from being laid back and calm all the time to whining, panting, not wanting to eat, smelling, leg hiking, etc any time he can even smell that you might have been around a female in heat. Course, we knew that was a risk and understand that's just part of it, so we weren't just upset when his behaviour changed. It is something to consider if you are tremendously opposed to it though. |
We have also experienced the whining, panting, and leg hiking episodes. I think that's natural and to be expected, so make sure you are willing to put up with it. It does make neutering attractive somedays....lol. Good luck. |
No Ceeby has only been bred once and it hasn't changed him at all. He is still like a little white haired maniac running around. Sweet as ever. But that week Silk was ready, he was crazy unless i had her in the crate then he ignored her. he was already a leg lifting peeing machine. |
yes, it poosibly very well could. It depends on your male, but many, many of them - will mark their teritory in your house and when the female is in the house in heat - they will cry, whine, pace back and forth, and the female in heat will usually try to get out and get to the male. You need to have the space, patience, and be very cautious to them during this time. It is hard to go through, especially if not use to it. |
I have a pet stud dog (for my personal use, not studded out). He has only been used once and his personality did not change. The only problem I've encountered having an unneutered male is when you have a female in heat and you don't want to breed it's hard to keep them separated. He didn't mark before breeding and he still doesn't, but I am home all day with him to correct him, if needed. |
