Constipated 6 wks puppy... Well can you do to help a puppy that is constipate? She is getting some poop stuck when she is trying to have a bowel movement. I was able to loosen it yesterday so that it would come out, but then today it happened again. They are currently eating Ceasar Puppy food and Dry puppy food. They are weaning fully from the Mom, and they have water out all the time. I tried putting some Karo Syrup in the water yesterday for the constipation, but that hasn't seemed to work. Any other ideas on what I can do to help her? Thanks, Audrey |

Make sure to keep a good eye on the ones it is happening to. We missed the signs a while back on a puppy and he ended up with a very sore behind area. A small bit of Vaseline in the area helped work for us. Best of luck to you! |
Keep a close eye on the pup sometimes giving Karo or honey can form a plastic type covering over their anus. Since you see stuff coming out you probably don't have to worry about an intestinal blockage. A dog gets constipated because he doesn't have enough fiber or liquid in his diet (or intestinal blockage). Start making his food softer with more liquid and canned until he gets things moving again, maybe even give natural chicken broth on the side (try to find a healthy one with less salt). Also try a teaspoon of canned pumpkin without all the spices, this is a natural fiber that usually works. |
I've heard that pumpkin does wonders! Just make sure it's not the pie filling. I've also heard that is helps puppies who have to have their anal glands expressed frequently. |
a warm water enima works every time! |
Thank you ALL! I will try those ideas!!!! Audrey |
Yup...heard that canned pumpkin works wonders and I see that someone has already suggested that. Best of luck! |
You can call your vet too and he can advice you over the phone usually about this one. Hope he feels better soon. T. |
