I would get a call in to your vet NOW and hope that maybe the due date was miscalculated. It sounds very much like she is in labor whether the pups are ready or not. You have posted that she is about double in weight with this pregnancy and it's likely that her system cannot take the strain. Whelping a tiny would be no picnic for even an experienced breeder and you need to get some hands on help now or risk losing her.

yes i have read the site but stil panicked actually went to the site while she was doing it thank you

I don't want to sound negative (and I don't mean it that way) but was this a planned breeding?

There is so much to learn on whelping puppies....I just hope you did all your homework first because you want to make sure everyone is safe!

Please keep us posted and I wish you good luck with everything!!!

thank you for the worryz and all we didnt think the male was ready but apparently we were wrong and when spoke to her vet b4 this one he didnt make it a big deal that she was so small and all but i am doing the best i can and will always put my baby b4 anything else thank you

sylvan 08-07-2006 05:44 PM

Panicking is not an option that will help her or you get through this. Your nerves will make hers worse and despite what your vet said..I think you ought to at least have a muzzle on hand. She is going to be very unhappy anyway and at least the person trying to assist her won't need sutures.
I would also try to locate someone experienced that can help you in case your vet is not available...it never hurts to have back up help.

doortego 08-07-2006 05:52 PM

I believe

that I would take her in to the vet in the morning and have him check her and if she is in labor, ask if I could leave her there. Of course, if they don't have round the clock attendants, and she hadn't delivered before they closed, I would go back & get her.

Yes, you have made this quite clear to everyone here.

That's great. Admitting you have a problem is winning half the battle. Seriously, you are contradicting yourself here: 'I know I'm not ready....I can do this on my own.' Makes no sense. None at all.

If I think the way I do? I don't even know where to go with that one... Furthermore, correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't YOU the one asking for help and panicking and asking questions? Everyone here is just trying to help YOU. I was only trying to stress the seriousness of the situation...apparently something you already were aware of. [/QUOTE]

No need to waste an unsincere apology on me when it could be saved for your female instead.

I wish you (and your girl) the best of luck with the upcoming whelp. Hopefully you will find the miracle....uh, I mean answers here that you are looking for.

Susanbee51 08-08-2006 05:44 AM

You asked for help/advice and that is what you got. From very experienced breeders. You just have to read their posts to know how concerned they are for your little girl, their concern over your inexperience and panic and ability to handle this stressful situation and the care she is getting. I hope your little girl and her puppies do great.

doortego 08-08-2006 05:48 AM

Please

let us know how your little girl is doing. Best wishes to you all.:animal-pa

Between what you've learned here and what you should have gone over with your vet, you should be able to recognize or at least know what signs to look for regarding labor.

Point blank...you are not ready for this whelp. Your girl is already in the middle of what we know is a high-risk pregnancy, given the size of the male. This is not going to be a small litter--5 didn't you say? This was not a breeding you planned. You've already admitted you're worried and you are a nervous wreck now and have no clue what is going on, what to expect, or what to do.
Plain and simple, you are not ready. I urge you to put your pride elsewhere, seek help from a nearby experienced breeder or your vet and have them present during the whelp as you clearly are not prepared. You are risking the life of your girl by not being ready and not knowing what to do!

Sorry to be harsh, but you don't seem to be taking the advice you are being given here...

Excellent post, couldnt' agree with you more   I just feel sorry for that poor little female, being allowed to be bred by a bigger dog :thumbdown

Me too. The poor little girl. :(

Lacy's Mom 08-08-2006 01:49 PM

Come on Yorkie Talk members - she has taken the dog to a vet, she did find this site in plenty of time to get answers (this isn't her first post, and hopefully she does have 2 weeks to gain more knowledge), she did take the Mom to the vet and have an xray done. I believe her when she says the vet thinks the Mom can deliver alone and he is on call for a C-section, if needed. As many times as I have whelped puppies, I still get a bit nervous and reread information with each and every pregnancy.

I too think the muzzle might make the dog more nervous. Her instincts will tell her she needs her mouth for breaking the sack, stimulating and cleaning, and cutting the cords. I would have leather gloves (thin, but strong) available. (By the way, I've never seen a muzzle so I am unsure of what movement they still have).

I know you are all just concerned because I've been around a while and know you all to be very good hearted people, but this member only hears your criticism of her, not your love for her dog and unborn puppies.

Susanbee51 08-09-2006 12:38 PM

Hmmm...wonder why there is nothing from dlAmONd maMli* since Monday night about the condition of her girl and new litter?

Lacy's Mom 08-09-2006 12:46 PM

I have heard from her and the dog has not went into labor. Hopefully, she will find the strength to post again and get advice from all the experts on this forum and, hopefully, they can provide helpful information for the Mom without attacking the owner.

BamaFan121s 08-09-2006 12:49 PM

Hopefully she has found someone to work with one on one for this whelp.:)

I wish you and your little mom the best

I hope she is ok and is able to deliver on her own but if for any second you think she may be in trouble please get her to a vet asap you dont want to take any chances with your little girl. I only wish you both the best and 5 healthy and happy pups. I too know how nervious you get with my litter I had to keep telling my self to calm down she can tell when you get scared and it will make her nervious, but in the end my little girl came through with 3 healthy little babies and she did a great job. Please keep us upto date with you little girls progress , I will be praying for a perfect delivery for you both :)

doortego 08-09-2006 09:09 PM

If you wait until the water sac comes, then its probably too late to take your female anywhere, as the puppies should start coming at that point. My Bell delivered her puppies and I never saw a water sac, and I was with her that whole day. (she was even in my lap while her contractions were coming) No water SAC! Please be careful and if you ever feel the need or have the thought you need a vet, go and get one, don't wait!
Good Luck
