Actively Breeding Yorkies? I was just wondering who out there are actively breeding their Yorkies? (and have YEARS behind their belts) It would be great if we had questions, issues, etc.... that we had someone we knew we could ask these questions to. Any one out there? |
There are several members here that have been actively breeding for years. A good friend/mentor (who is a member here just never posts) has been breeding for over 45 years. Wish she'd start posting! |
Its just always nice to talk with an "expert". I can ask my vet over and over, but he doesn't experience it. I like talking with someone who actually "does" it :) I plan to breed my Meiah (she's the one who's not feeling quite well right now: see my diareha post) and my Brodie. Not soon though. Meiah is 11 months and Brodie 6 1/2 months. But I love learning. Are there any Yorkie Whelping Videos out there? I've purchased two whelping vidoes, but one is German Shepards and the other Border Collies. Have a Yorkie Video would be fantastic. I think I own every whelping book out there as well. One can't have too much knowledge! I just had a litter of Chi's 3 weeks ago. Everything that could go wrong did! Emergency C section, Lost the mom for 3 minutes but she was revived, and now I'm working with a cleft pallet puppy. (I'll never breed her again) I'm deffinatley learning ALOT! Everyone keeps saying...so your really going to do this again?? I say YUP! You don't give up the first time you get on a bike and fall off - you get right back on! And thats what I'm doing! |

Question regarding heat cycle I have a female that has been bleeding for 20 day straight in her heat cycle. I have never seen a female bleed that long. Has anyone had this happen and can tell me if this is normal? The male is very interested in her. Thanks in advance, Rosie |
breeding I would take your bitch to the vet for a smear..it is very simple..and you can tell what is going on..ovulating, going out, infection...that is what 35 yrs of experince tells me..best wishes... PS..we have a number of long time breeders..if you have a question..just post in this section.. |
I contacted my vet just to get some reassurance and he claims that it is perfectly normal to bleed for 20 or 25 days and that ovulation and fertilization can occur at this time. Perfectly normal? I told him that this certainly cannot be the norm because I have never seen it before. Thanks Pat!:) RM I would take your bitch to the vet for a smear..it is very simple..and you can tell what is going on..ovulating, going out, infection...that is what 35 yrs of experince tells me..best wishes... bitch I do not recall much color after 10 to 12 days, with the color going lighter and lighter..but some will start to spot a bit for a few days after breeding has occurred. A friend had a bitch stay in heat for about a month..they found a egg/cyst?? on her ovary..medication took care of it..an injection as I recall. The vet explained an egg became encased in the ovary or something to that effect.sorry I can not give techincal terms.. Good Luck |
