Jasmine Pregnant? Maybe or Maybe Not Jasmine, my 7 year old yorkie, was bred the week of June 4 - 9. Her first due date is Aug. 6. She had a false pregnancy the first go round in Jan. of this year. I really haven't gotten my hopes up this time. But, she seems to be following the same timeline she did before...her private is very swolen, she has put on about two pounds and her nipples are swolen as well. I can even see the colostrum in four of the nipples. The only difference is that she has a "dried blood band" around her private...near the skin...not at the actual delivery section. This did not happen before. She does not seem to be in pain either. She is begging for attention as always. Jasmine came to my chair earlier like she wanted me to pick her up so I did and she laid on her back as if she was telling me to "look". I called the stud breeder (who breeds females as well) and she said that seemed like a positive sign...maybe she is getting near since she is due next week. Many of you are going to ask if she has been to the vet. and the answer is "no". My vet. charges $80 for an x-ray alone and an additional $35 office visit fee. Yes, Jasmine is worth that and plus so much more but I went through this false pregnacy ordeal before. I'm thinking this might be happening again. The only difference is the "dried blood band around her private...next to the skin". It has me puzzled. She acts fine and is as sweet as ever. I was just wondering if any other breeders had seen this "blood band". |
I think I could be misunderstanding? You bred your 7 year old bitch and this will be her first delivery? |
? I am not understanding you... are you seeing a dark mucus stuck to her vulva...that can look like blood, but is not..wash the vulva and remove the mucus..keep the vulva clean. Discharge in a pregnant bitch is usual..but it should not be bloody or green.. A vet check on a possibly pregnant bitch is not optional, it is what a wise breeder does as a routine precaution. You need to make a vet appt and have her xrayed...taking short cuts in breeding can lead to serious problems..and a bucket full of money..saving a dollar on Monday can turn into $10 lost on Tuesday...best wishes |
Don't understand what you are describing as a blood band, but at this stage she should definitely look pregnant and you should even be able to feel the pups move. They can get milk even with a false pregnancy and once they have one false pregnancy the odds are higher they will have another. She may even actually get pregnant and reabsorb the fetuses. How much does she weigh? The x-ray can not only determine pregnancy, but can tell you how many, width of Mom's pelvic and size of the pups to determine if she can most likely deliver naturally or you need to schedule a C-section. Actually, your vet's prices are very reasonable compared to other vets in different locations. Yorkies and their breeders are lucky because the puppies bring high prices so we (they) can afford the vet bills and do all that we can to ensure a healthy happy delivery. |
I would get her checked i'm not a breeder but i have heard some horror strories also my vet charges $130.00 for and x-ray here so i think it would be worth getting it done you don't want to lose her and the pups if something goes wrong. Good luck and keep us posted. |
