size of mom Im planning on breeding my little girl in like a year or so ( she will be almost 2 by then) or on her second heat. she is now alittle over 3lbs at 11 months. She hasnt gotten any bigger for the past 3 months. i was wondering how many pups can she carry? The boy dog that she will be breeding with is almost 3 lbs and he will be 2.5 years old by then. Thank you. |
You shouldn't breed her. She's too little. They should be at least 5 pounds before they are bred. And also, when you do breed, it's best if the stud is smaller. I'd reccomend just getting her spayed and keeping her as a loving pet. |
It's not a good idea to breed her, she is too small. Like Megan said, they should be at least 5lbs (even that is small) and the dad should be a lot smaller. You don't want to do that to your little girl, too many things can go wrong, you don't want to end up losing her. |
sounds good guys. thanks for the advice. |
Ditto the above. Do not breed her. She is way too small. |
Yes I agree. She is too small and there are too many risks and dangers of breeding one that is that small, it would not be worth it.:thumbdown |
She probably won't get any bigger. You are taking a huge risk in breeding her. |
Breeding small moms What are the sizes of everyones female that has bred? I too plan to breed my female. She's 4 lbs but I just got her and she's VERY skinny. (you can feel her spine and ribs) :( Poor baby. I'm working on feeding her real well :) She's 11 months. |

The smaller the female is, the smaller the male will need to be, and the puppies get increasingly smaller. So it's not only a risk to the mother, but to the puppies as well. |
I'm thinking at the correct weight my girl should be 5 to 6 lbs. Is this ok? How do these people breed these 3 lbs females? That seems sooo small! |
Jeaniek - do you breed yours? |
The smallest female I have ever bred is 4 pounds 12 oz. and she had a prior natural delivery before I got her. She was bred to a male 4 pounds even. |
My female is now 10 lbs. 4 ozs. & my male is now 6 lbs. 7.2 ozs. I thought he was to short/small to reach her but I was very wrong...She had her puppies & they are 12 weeks now, 1st litter...No problems what so ever...And every baby lived! We had 4. Love them all! My female is 3.7 lbs and has had a litter prior to me getting her. Her litter was in March this year, and she just came into heat now, a week after getting her... I will wait atleast until next heat to breed, but I need to find a small male to stud.... |
how much smaller does the male have to be compare to the female for breeding? |
