False Pregnancy Symptoms? First, let me start by saying I don't know if this is the correct forum that I should be posting such questions - And, if not, I apologize. Question: My little lady just finished her first season and since I am planning to get her spayed on 8/1 provided she is NOT pregnant, I need to know if the symptoms she has been having lately are just signs of false pregancy. I am 99.9% sure that she is not pregnant since I personally kept watch of her during this past month. The .01% uncertainty is due to the rare instances that I left my 16 year old in charge of my furbabies supervision. And, even with diapers and belly bands, I'm sure PS2 took presidence to my little ones. Well, she has swollen teats - ALL of them. Her vulva has not entirely shrunk down to its pre-heat size. And, most recently, for the past two days has been vomitting. Are these all symptoms the norm of a false :hands: pregnancy? Your thoughts will be GREATLY appreciated. :thankyou2 |
my muffie did have swollen teats after her first heat and her vulva never went back to the orginial size and she was not pregnant. i dont know if this helps you |
Unfortunately there is no difference between the symptoms of a false pregnancy vs. a real pregnancy. Some will even get milk. All the hormones are the same, but there is just no babies. If you want to be 100% certain she is not pregnant, you will have to wait until an ultrasound can be done about 5 or 6 weeks into pregnancy or wait a little longer and you will be able to feel the babies moving. You can spay during early pregnancy though, with minimal complications. You say this is her first heat, if she is really young or really small, you might want to at least consider this beings that you were going to have her spayed anyway. I have had dogs tie with belly bands and diapers on, but I didn't have to wonder about the pregnancy because I saw the tie. He had his belly band up under his ribs and her diapers were just moved to the side! I no longer trust this method of preventing contraception! |
Thank you ever so much for your insights. I will take her to the Vet as planned and see what their overall feelings are. I do know that this particular Vet does not do spays if the dog is pregnant. :confused: But, I will address this further as my little girl is only 10.5 months old and bearly weighs over 3.5lbs after a full meal. And, I remember reading some where that mothering is really not recommended under 4lbs. :thinking: :scratchhe |
At only 10 1/2 months and barely 3 and 1/2 pounds I would definitely consider a spay during early pregnancy. There are definitely vets that will perform the procedure. Most agree you shouldn't breed a dog under 5 pounds. How much does the dog she had access to weigh? |

Yes, if the vet feels she has a good chance to deliver without endangering her life, I, personally, couldn't abort the puppies either. She is still small, but I'm glad the male is also small. Recently, there was a 3 and 1/2 pounder that delivered naturally. I think the poster is Michiko ?? I don't have any experiences with one that young though. Good luck at the vets and keep us posted. |

dont want to steal your thread but i have a quick question. my cousins yorkie who they think is pregnat has become wilder than ever instead of really lazy and calm. :confused: is this normal? |
