Need Advice hi there, my Roxy just had pups (her 1st time) and 3 pups are double the size of the 4th one which happened to be born 2nd so i am a bit worried, she seems to be ok, she is eating well but she is so small compared to the other 3 im very worried she might not make it.....:( what do you guys think? Also how soon or early should i take them to the vet and get their tails cut? I am planning on calling a vet tomorrow but i was just curious to see if any one knew. Thanks |
Hi and welcome to Yorkietalk . When I have a healthy smaller pup im a litter , I always let him or her nurse first . The tails and dewclaws are usually done when the puppies are 3 to 5 days . |
Thanks a bunch, that is what i have been doing and i also have been bottle feeding her in between to make sure she gets enough. Now the tail and dew clawe thing is something the vet can do right? |
Congratulations for the new puppies . It seems that you have the situation well under control . Yes , the vet will be able to do the tails and dewclaws . |

It's fine that one of the puppy is small, the puppy will be considered the runt of the litter. As long as the puppy is eating and drinking well, the puppy will be fine. you can get their tails done within the first 3 weeks. Dont worry about the small one. My yorkie just had puppies 7 weeks ago and I have one small one myself and he is doing great. I didn't get their tails done. I actually like their tails the way it is. Most get their tails clip to fit the "YORKIE LOOK" but I think their tails are fine the way they are. (my opinion) |

My vet does their tails at 2 to 3 days! Congrats! |
Reply Hello, I didnt say wait for 3 weeks, what I said is that it is best to get them done within the 3 weeks. Meaning any time after that will be more painful. Yes it best to do it right away, but after 3 weeks, you shouldn't do it. |
well everyone, thanks a bunch for every one of you who took the time to stop by and give me your input. I took my pups to get their tails and claws done. They are doing well, 5 days old and the small one weighs 72grams! she is so small and though i know there is always a smaller one i cant help but feel worried. Im praying that she will make it :aimeeyork Well thanks again and will be back in the forums soon. |
