Stubbed Paw Hi everyone, I just adopted a male Yorkie. He was not fit for sale because he has a right front paw which is missing a few toes. The breeder told me the mother chewed off some of the toes in her haste to clean the pup after birth. So far there don't seem to be any problems with him walking, playing or jumping. I love him already and I just need to know more to make his life easier and happier. I would like to know if anyone has experienced this or has any advise. Thank you in advance. :animal-pa |
I have "heard" of this happening before but I'm sorry I have no advice for you. I would just like to say I think it's wonderful you adopted him. Best wishes, |
If it has healed well and he doesn't seem to be having any problems, I would expect he will do just fine. Missing toes can also be genetic though so unless the breeder knows for sure I wouldn't offer him for stud. I've came across several articles over the years and have only seen one (a large Rottweiler) that had pain associated with the toe loss. Congratulations on your new baby and Welcome to YT! |
toes Since the missing toes are causing no problems and dogs can miss many body parts, not care and do well,... I would say he is a lucky dog...fewer nails to clip!! |
