Is It Possible? 3 Attachment(s) Hi! I bought Gigo when he was 4 months old. I bought him as a show quality dog. This is my first yorki, so I didn`t have any experience with yorkies before. Breeder assure me than that he has no mistakes, that he is perfect. Now he is 12 months old and has roach back. Breeder still want to convince me that at age 4 months his topline was perfect. Is it possible that she is telling the thruth??????? |
Yes , it is possible . Topline may change as the puppy get older . It is the main reason why a breeder keep his show potential puppies longer . |

a pup can go out perfect at 4 months as show potential, bite in place and top line perfect, ear set and gait. As a pup developes from pup to teen and then adulthood they can blow a bite by retained puppy teeth (that is why it's so important to take care once all adult or most adult teeth are in) Its rare for a top line to blow but can happen...If a pup was raised on wire and then solid ground it sometimes can change a topline. It is said roach back is hereditary (more often than not) that's why it's so important to see the parents and know their pedigree. |

Just because both parents have a straight topline, doesn't mean they aren't recessive carriers for the gene responsible for a roachback. That's why it's so hard to eliminate these genetic faults in a line. You can have a liver shunt baby from two healthy parents that carry the gene. That's why it's so important that you know what's in the lines five generations back before breeding. I would think that there was some indication at 4 months, but maybe not, and it may have resulted from an injury??????? |
his tail is not docked. does that matter in show quality???? |

Docked means cutting off the tail at 3 to 5 days old. I don't know where Slovenia is, but it's possible it is banned because it is considered unnecessary and cruel in many countries. I am pretty sure you can show an undocked Yorkie now without points being taken away. |

I am sure if this breeder is a reputable breeder she would not, in any way want to see this dog in the show ring. He is now your sweet pet dog, and needs to be neutered. He is not a good representative of the breed. There is just no way to sugar coat this. But on the other hand I have seen dogs in the ring that have very bad toplines, does this make them show quality? Not for me. I am sure you are in love with him, so maybe if you want to show or breed you can find a better dog, something you can win with. 1 Attachment(s) Thank you very much for all opinions and advice. About the question what he breeder said! She said that his topline was perfect at age 4 months. She still try to convince me that I can go on shows with him and I can breed with him. What she is saying is absolutely inadmissibility to me. I really can`t understand her. Now I am looking for a new yorki girl. I was thinking about some 10 months old female which is avalible from one of my acquaintance good friend. I trust her very much. Here is one picture, when I will have more pictures I will send them to you so you can give me some opinions. |
