helpful hints I belong to a yorkie exhibitors list and these suggestions where on the list worth passing on. FFP - Fresh frozen plasma www.hemopet.com The FFP or fresh frozen plasma is used to provide a source of glubulins (plasma protein antibodies) which will help protect weak, fading or orphaned newborns. Since we don't always know if or when a puppy could fade I routinely give it now to all newborns. Just a little added insurance. It comes from a colony of greyhounds that are housed and rehabilitated for placement and while there they donate blood. The greyhounds are treated fabulously and are given the chance to be adopted by loving homes. Rebound - for vomiting or diarrhea http://www.reboundanimalhealth.com/products.html |
How is the FFP administered? |
Thanks for sharing - Interesting reading - I had never heard of either product. I really liked the Rebound products and would definitely use them. It doesn't look like there are any vets in my area stocking it though. I swear by Pedialyte and Nutrical and would really like to order the Rebound products. I compared the Pedialyte ingredients to the Rebound electrolyte formula and was suprised it didn't have Dextrose in it, but I love that it is flavored. It reminds me of a product called Instant Ounces or Formula One for birds - that is a miracle life saver when you have a weak baby or sick bird. |
www.vetamerica.com has the Rebound electrolyte and liquid food very reasonably priced plus 10% and free shipping. I think it would be something great to have and maybe even send home with the Nutrical. |
administer the FFP by mouth either in syringe or eye dropper. I spoke with Patty again, she said many breeders are using it, it's another precautionary measure to help these kids thrive. |
someone else shared lactobacillus, http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/e...equestid=49246 like the benebac gel (I think) http://www.revivalanimal.com/product...190&ss=benebac |

I use the nutri-drops ...they are fast acting and last for 8 hours. Many handlers will use it about 1/2 before ring time for that extra perk up in the ring too:) |
