Breed Specific Congenital Defects For breeders, here's a very interesting site that tells which congenital defects purebreeds are known to have. Although, the Yorkie line seems to have its share of problems I really thought it would be higher than it is. Poodles have a lot more listed under their category. To use the site, scroll down to breed listings, find the breed your interested in, it will list those defects prone to that breed, then scroll down and read what each default is. http://www.webhometown.com/mr/dog_gen.html |
VERY interesting! Thanks so much for posting this! ;) This website will be extremely helpful when I start looking into getting a large breed. I think I'll just scroll through the list and whichever one has the fewest congenial defects, I will get that one! :D :aimeeyork :) :animal36 :p :animal-pa  |

the ones with the least genetic defects seem to be the rarer breeds and i wonder if that's only because not enough is known about them. Also alot of the 'genetic defects' listed for each breed aren't specific to a breed. I was looking at the first couple of things for yorkies and all those things about the eye lids ANY dog can get. pure bred, mutt, whatever. i've seen plenty of dogs with those things. |
