Ok, yesterday, I called a couple of vets (not MY vet) to get a "generic" recommendation on the calcium supps. Both of them gave the same info as Lacy's Mom has given. However, they both did say that a reduced amount (1/4 tab for a 10 lb dog) should be fine during pregnancy, and increasing to a full tab (2x the recommended dose) while nursing, which is what txshopper said she did.

Now, mind you, they BOTH said "but you should check with YOUR vet to get his/her recommendation for YOUR dog". Again, covering themselves.

This is confusing. I've read and heard about eclampsia, and it scares the jeebers out of me. I would DIE if my baby girl went through that.

I wish there was a simple answer to this.

My vet recommends giving calcium the last part of her pregancy but I haven't given her any. ..( hopefully I made the right decision..) She's eating a high quality food. . I feel breeders who breed these little guys all the time probably know more than even my vet on some things.

I am well aware of that. I am basing my info on Silk's former owner who had bred her to an older champion that she has. She SAID she took him to the vet after that and he had a very low sperm count so she retired him. i am taking a wait and see attitude.

Gracie's Mom and Steve!!! We all may be having puppies the same week. We bred Dori and Yogi about 5 days before you guys!!!! Dori weighs 6# and Yogi is close to 5#. We are so excited and nervous.!!!

I have a question for anyone out there that can help. Why do you breed every other day versus every day during their heat cycle? Not to cause any friction but what if the right days were actually 11, 13, 15 instead of 10, 12, 14? If they were together every day would that help or hurt? Sorry if this is an ignorant question. I have read several places about the every other day but wonder why its done that way? Help anyone? Thanks. :animal-pa

The sperm will survive inside the female for 24+ hours, the theory on breeding every other day is to allow recovery time for the studs sperm count. So, your basically " covered" the days you don't breed with the surviving sperm from day before, then allowing the day recovery time in stud, increases count in semen increases your chances for sucess. Hope this makes sence for you.:)

hope gracie delivers healthy and happy puppies :) looks like the YT nursery is gonna get filled up! my cousins yorkie Sophie is in heat and if all goes well, will deliver early sept. :)
