White on newborn pups chest? I just was looking at this website pupepalace..and I was wondering why some newborn yorkies have white on the chests? What does that mean? Some other websites advertise large white chests as parti carriers, I understand why they would have the white chests but how about these standard yorkies??? Also I talked to a well known breeder and she was mentioning one of her pups had the little white on her chest and she wished that the other one she was keeping had the white on her chest too...? Does that mean better genes or better coat or coloring?? Thanks ! |
Taken from the "sticky" about coat colors: There may be a white star or a small blaze located on the fore chest in the tan, or across the black and tan. This is a much looked-for point, as it is an indication that the puppy will probably be a good coat grower in quantity, though not necessarily in quality. It is also an indication that there will be no melanism, or over-supply of pigment. |

white spot!! My pups both have white spot on the chest too! I was wondering why its like that since the mom doesn't have it (neither does the dad, I think). |
My 8 week old puppy has a patch of white fur on her chest. I think it's so cute! :p So, from what I gather from the info posted from the sticky, does this mean that she will have A LOT of hair?! The white should go away as the pups grow, this is why you normally do not see it on adult yorkies. Lacy's mom is correct and was quoting from page 205 of "The Complete Yorkshire Terrier Book" by Gordon and Bennett. This book is like my yorkie bible and explains everything about yorkies. :) Breeders look for this but it does not indicate a coat, as an adult, that will be of great quality - but should have a lot of hair. It might not have the sheen/shine but may have a lot of hair. |
My Annika does have that white spot on her chest and on one of her feet (back leg). That was what we used to distinguish her from her sister . . . now at 4 months, it is no longer noticeable . . .but if this is a sign that she will have lots of hair . . yipee! I love to have my yorkie be in long coat but my Tiger's coat grows so slow and gets matted on the ends. I am finally taking him to the groomer for a trim/puppy cut. |
A lot of hair means quantity = thicker coat, more hair strands but not necessarily long hair. It can be long if you can keep up with the mats. Silky coats are more easily to grow since they do not mat as easily and silky coats are shinier. But at least they should have more hair! But I have also seen pups with the with star on chest and have a nice shiny/silky coat too. So it just all depends on the genes and how the pup grows. |

No, you will love this book. It has a lot of yorkie information in it. Great advice and well written. They know their yorkies! They are the Wildweir ladies - all American yorkies go back to their dogs! They are the best of the best - Real Pros! :thumbup: |

Poppy had a white patch on her chest and white on the toes of her two back feet. The white on her chest is gradually dissapearing as her tan grows lighter and the white on her feet is long gone. I heard it can indicate the pup will be a good coat grower in quantity but not necessarily quality. Poppys hair does grow really fast and matts easily. |
