Breeding Question I'm new here and it's quite reassuring to find this site! We got our baby Tila on St. Patty's day. She's 5 and a half months old now. We were considering breeding her, but weren't sure. When we consulted our vet, he said she had a very long body and would most likely be able to have 4 healthy puppies. and that as long as her mom didn't have a c-section she'd be fine. I was wondering if anyone could give me some information They are safe to breed at 1.5 years right? and what weight is safe. She weighs an even 4 lbs. last time we checked. She's growing un believably. We got her at 1 lb. at 3 and a half months! SOO I'd appreciate help and information. Since I have noo clue. |

The longer you wait, the better for the dog. Dogs should be bred before their 3rd birthday, however. It's said that 5 lbs is a good weight to start with. However, you need to also look at her body frame and your dog is still too young to determine that. |

WOW Kimberly! You sure know tour sites! LOL I know some of them but WOW.... now I have more to look at ! Thanks!!!!!!! You're always full of information! |
oh wow thanks for all those sites. to be honest I had tried to research but had trouble finding stuff. and her body isn't TOO long, not at all. I just meant it's a bit long for her size and such. thanks for those sites and I'll probablly look and read every one lol |
Some times their bodies are not real long but they have a combo of long body and short legs with narrow hips. These characteristics might not be what would make a female with good breeding qualities.. Maybe comparing her to the breed standard will help you make your decision about her qualities as a pet rather than a breeder... |
