Can I Give The Puppy Shots? I have 9 new pups. I am wondering if I can give the vaccinations at 2, 4, and 6 weeks myself? I am in nursing school and was wondering if it is similar to people? I think it would same me a lot of money. If so, what are the vaccines and where could I find them? Thank you. |
I don't know if these pups are from your own breeding? BUt you never ever give vaccinations to any Yorkie pups at less than 8 weeks of age. They are still nursing before then and they really are too small and too young prior to that. I prefer to wait until they are 10 weeks for the first vacc's then second one 3-4 weeks later, third 4 weeks after that. I do not give my own vaccinations, the Vet does it and they get a health check at the same time. Some breeders do their own but you must realize there is a risk of a reaction to the vaccine. You don't have the capability to counteract a bad reaction and there may not be time to get it to the Vet. |
The only thing you can do for your pups at 2, 4 and 6 weeks is worm them. I use Nemex2 (I get it from my vet). I am sure there are some people on here that give the puppy shots... (no earlier than 6 weeks, but it seems like most don't give the shots until 8 weeks). The only shot your vet is required to give your pups is the rabies shot. Good luck.:) |

The act of giving the shot is easy, but do some research first. It is given subcutaneously, and you have to get all the air out, sterilize the area, and make sure you are not hitting a vein (by pulling back on the syringe to see if you draw blood) Never vaccinate before 8 weeks and some even wait until later. Never give Lepto and Corona is only suggested in some areas. They are sold at vet supply stores and must be refrigerated and cost anywhere from 2.00 to 7.00 each so check the prices. |
worming I never worm until a stool check is done..and that is done at 8 weeks...no worms, no worming..why run toxins through a tiny Yorkie with no worms? It is about the surest way to cause liver problems. |
