What Can I do to tell babies apart? I right now have terry cloth ponytail holders around the puppies necks to tell them apart...They all look the same! Whatelse can I do to tell the difference in them...I'm really not liking these ponytail holders I have now. I am gonna look through my girls and see if I can find some bigger ones. Can anyone tell me how U all tell them apart? Thanks in advance and Hugs, Lee:aimeeyork |
Hi............. My girlfriend used different colored embroidery thread and tied it around the babies necks. Not tight........as they grew she'd just change them. Hope that helped some. :) |
I've seen people put different color fingernail polish on 1 nail of each puppy. |
tags When I had a big litter of look-a-likes I put the different colors of yarn of the rear foot...I do not like anything on the neck..having a puppy get caught a few times in the mothers coats..they grow fast so check every day. |
Those are Great Ideas! I thought about the finger nail polish but I know my Tiffy she would chew it off of them! Don't want that! But now I never thought about the Thread...I'm making a blanket now for my granddaughter (Don't think I'll get it done right away!) and my girls makes braclets out of it all the time...Thats a super idea! I'll do it...Just not to tight!! Man what would I do without U all. Hugs & Thanks so very very much, Lee :aimeeyork |
thread With 2 and 2, you only have to put thread on two of them...LOL |
look for special little marks like when we bought my puppy from a local breeder she could tell him apart by the cute little ring around his nose or put different colored collars and mark them w/their names:D just a thought? |
I have been working on a system I call Identi-pup. If you are interested, send me a pm and I'll explain the system to you. :D |
I examine each pup for slight differences at birth. Sometimes there is so little difference that it's very difficult to tell. The easiest way is by chest markings, then toes, ears, chins, etc. With our current litter of 5 girls, Star was very easy because she was almost totally dark with a very small white star on her chest and she is the smallest. Love has white on her chest, another easy one to tell. And both Star and Love had their ears up from the beginning, never once flopped down. But then there is Faith, Hope and Charity. They were so close in size and color it was really difficult, but then after really close looking at all three, I discovered that Faith had a slight darker rim around her ears and a dark chin. Hope had more goldish ears and a dark chin. And Charity had the goldish ears and a gold chin. Charity also had some white on the bottom of her paws. Now that they are 6 weeks old, I still have to look at ears and chin to tell who is who. |
Our last litter had two look-a-likes. We put polish on one of the back toenails. Worked like a charm! We reapplied the polish when we did the once a week nail trimming :) |
