Ok ladies! I have a question
 

My boss sent her male yorkie out to stud this week. She got him back this evening and I just happened to be here when he came. When I picked him up his little wee wee was REALLY REALLY red, almost inflamed looking. When I mentioned it to my boss she said that they had to "Do the job" for him because he was to young to do it himself. He is the same age as Gizmo 11 months. So I guess what my question is, Is it wrong to stud them if they are not old enough? And does the vet masturbating him cause him any pain? I know all my questions are wierd? But he just seems really tired and sore since he came back. :(

You should not be able to see the penis at all...the breeding was long over, the penis should have been back in the sheath..but the penis of a dog is red.
I do not think it is wise to start at a young male at stud with AI. If a male will not breed, I wait until he is ready...just my way of doing it.

Even though Pat said it already, you should not be able to see the penis long after the breeding is over. Now some really anxious males will, ummm let's say "hold it out there" but is usually not for very long.

I'm not hip on AI either. I prefer to let them breed naturally but do not have anything against anyone who does AI. That's just me.

Oops, one more thing I forgot to add...
Yes, a male can become "sore" if the mating was not totally supervised and assisted. A female can literally drag him around by his penis. It can actually cause damage and soreness. A male can also drag the female around during the tie. It can go both ways so all matings should be supervised and assisted IMO. :)

Thanks everyone. Im just really sad for little bailor. He only weighs 2 pounds. He is so fragile anyway. Im starting to feel like my boss just wants to make $$$ off of her yorkies. She has a female now too. I can't imagine what its going to be like when she is mature. :eek: She has already studded Bailor out twice! Does anyone else think this is too much too early? Or am I just over reacting?

Heather - I think you're caring. That's not overreacting. What I just read sure doesn't sound right to me and I'm NOT a breeder - :(

poor little tiny guy - he sure sounds like he's being put out as a money maker and it sounds like he's just too young if they're having to MAKE him do it.

That sounds HORRIBLE. I think that is so cruel! Poor little guy......Thats just terrible.

thanks everyone!!! I feel really bad for him too! I just can't stand by and watch her do this too him! It breaks my heart. I have told her how I feel, not thats its going to make a difference, but atleast I have made my peace!

Oh boy, not sure I should touch this one (I was going to say...with a ten foot pole but thought that pun was inappropriate... :eek: oops I said it anyway). But, I doubt the dog 'enjoyed' it in the sense that we think he did/or didn't. I doubt dogs enjoy having ANYTHING done to them by a vet. But I also, think there is a more clinical way of extracting the semen than physically masturbating the dog.

Okay now I have to say this as delicately as possible... in all males, human, bovine (bulls), equine (horses) etc...and I believe canine too, there is a spot that is accessible through the rectum that when stimulated, i.e. touched, squeezed etc..., it causes instant ejaculation. I could be wrong about canines but I know this is how they harvest bull semen.

A friend of mine had testicular cancer and his doctor got a sample of his semen this way too so I would think that it can be done for dogs too. I would question a breeder that 'manually' masturbated a dog, but I don't pretend know anything about breeding dogs but I would still question it.

As to why this dogs penis was out of its sheath I can't say, but the redness and inflamation may just have been the normal appearance, they kind of look that way normally.
