Youngest age to be a STUD??
 
:confused: We are new to the breeding, and are planning to make our little Kahlua a STUD (even though he already is a stud in our eyes, haha). What age are they usually ready to become a stud? I've read someplaces 7 months and in another place that 8 months was too early. Kahlua just turned 9 months on April 19. :animal36

AKC will not accept litters from a male under 10 months. The sperm doesn't mature until they are around 1 year. Do you have pictures of the little guy?

Kimberly, after I saw your answer, i went to the AKC site and checked because my husband said it is eight months. BUT, to my surprise it said the male stud must be between the ages of seven months and twelve years at the time of mating for the litter to be accepted. I have decide i will probably use Ceeby to mate with Silk tho still not sure and I have been hoping she would wait until he was eight months old. But I am still not certain because he is still sooooooooooo young and really needs to be a year old. he is nine months old now. so much to be considered in the breeding stuff before I make any decisions.

That is good to know. I had heard 7 months too, so I was surprised when I saw 10 months.

But I also heard that the first time for a male it is best if it is with an experienced female. And visa versa. Never good to put two inexperieced ones together.

However I haven't figured out where I am going to get Chachi some experience. It's not like they have houses of ill repute for dogs. LOL

I had never heard about needing to put an inexperienced with an experienced. I think we are going to wait til one year to make sure he is ready and to make sure we are too with all the information we need to know so its done right the first time!!

I have attached pics of our STUD!! :animal36

I heard of placing a experienced female with a unexperienced male or a experienced male with a unexperienced female . The majority of breeders will not place unexperienced together to prevent accidents .

i swear to goodness, he looks JUST like Ceeby. The middle and end picture and your avatar. When I clicked on the middle picture, his little face is exactly like Ceeby. The only difference is Ceeby has a lot of silver where yours is tan/gold around his head and face. We have a cute pair of little studs.

Your Stud Looks Just Like My Kirby BUT WHEN I TRIED TO STUD OUT MY KIRBY, NO ONE WANTED HIM....I GOT ABSOLUTLY 0 CALLS. SO SAD B/C HE IS SUCH A STUD

Lisa, it probably has little to with your boy...most often the fact is...people perfer to deal with an experinced stud and breeder, alot is at stake.

IMO anything under a year and a half to 2 years is TOO YOUNG to breed. Only in certain circumstances should a younger dog be bred.
Get their health checked, make sure their joints are tight and they have good teeth and gums. These are just a FEW things that should be a MANDATORY for any dog to be bred imo.

He already has one female experienced lined up that is Dustin's parents little darling. So he won't be inexpreinced for long!! We were never actually planning to look for other females, but the idea was mentioned to us by someone else.

:thumbup: We will be sure to have a whole check-up before letting our little man become a STUD don't worry about that!!
