Anyone ever seen this before? To all the long time breeders here, have you ever seen a yorkie puppy born that was all gray, instead of black? I have been doing this for 7 yrs and have never seen this before. I hope it doesn't mean something is wrong with her, she is cute. The other 2 pups are black, it's really weird. Please help! Debbie |
Could this be considered a blue puppy? Here is a thread and somewhere on YT there were pictures posted also. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ight=blue+born I am not a breeder but I just remembered the discussions. I hope this helps. |
Cindy, OMG! Thank you so much for the info, although I must say I am scared now. I hope my new baby will be o.k. I had never even heard of this before this happened. Don't worry, I wouldn't even consider putting her down unless it was in her best interest due to pain... I will try to keep you updated on her progress. Debbie |

Debbie - could you post pictures of your baby so someone experienced in breeding could take a look? |

Blue puppy 2 Attachment(s) Hi everyone! Finally got time to take some pics last night, so here is a couple pics of the blue pup along with the other 2 black ones in the same litter. Let me know what you think and thanks for the responses! Debbie & the Rascals gang:animal-pa |
pup It is not perfectly normal...but it happened and hopefully you baby will be fine. You may find the coat will be very short and the gold will grow normal. I would not repeat the breeding. JMO |
I certainly won't be breeding her again! Like I said, this is the first time this has ever happened to me, so I wasn't even sure what was wrong, if anything. I will be discussing this with my vet in great detail and researching myself on the condition. Thanks again! Debbie |
blue born, fawn born, chocolate born I found this article on the subject, it is by a lady who has bred for 30 years, this does not mean she is always right, but she must know something. Just though it may be helpful. http://members.aol.com/CYorkie/Genet...Chocolate.html |

Thanks! Thank you for the link but there is no way I would put this puppy down just because it is a different color, on the off chance that something may happen down the road! I don't agree with that part of it, but the rest was interesting. Thanks again and I'll keep you updated on her progress! Debbie |
pup I had one about 4 yrs ago...he has had no problems..and his coat has grown fairly well. I had no qualms about breeding the mother again since I had a number of her realtives and never saw it happen...so I bred her twice more with a different male and it did not reoccur. I have seen many pups born with something that did not look right and in a week or month it was normal...for example, I had a puppy born with a twisted leg..when it was in the sac I could see its front leg pinned back over the shoulder ..it looked terrible..and I thought surely it would be crippled. My vet said to wait and see..dogs can bounce back from some awful things. By the time this pup was 2 weeks old the leg was perfectly fine...by 8 weeks she ran through the house like a race horse...I have seen other breeders destroy a puppy with a deformed leg..even if it has not straighten out, a dog can compensate well...as long as it is not suffering. |
