6wk old pups---question about eyes I have a litter of 6wk old pups. I took them to the vet yesterday and the vet said they are all healthy pups except, one little girl has an eye infection (which we have been fighting since she was 3wks old). My vet also said the eye is smaller than the other eye he called it micro-something. Has anyone ever had this happen? What causes this? Is it heretitary? :aimeeyork |
The term for this is: micropthalmia........has anyone heard of this happening in yorkies? I can not find any information about it happening to yorkies. It normally happens in breeds that have the merling or dappling coat colors. I am curious to find out why it happened to my yorkie pup. |
There are canine eye specialists around. I would suggest you might want to find one in your area and ask them about it. An eye specialist for dogs would know how common it might be in the Yorkie. He or she can also tell you if it is considered an inherited problem in YOrkies which from the reading I did, it looks like it is inherited. If it is, you don't want to be repeating that mating. You can also find information about the pup you have now. I don't know if the eye may eventually have to be removed. In human babies, it looks like it does although I don't know if it is always so. |
