In heat but not wanting to mate.....HELP!!! This week we put Caesar with an "in heat" female Yorkie. Needless to say all they wanted to do is play. He is a year and a half old now and should be ready to breed. This would have been both of their first times. This is the females second heat. They stayed together for several days and still did nothing....or should I say "nothing infront of us". Any ideas what when wrong??? What can I do to change this behavior for next time? |
is there ANY humping action going on?? |
Could either be that the bitch's owner miscounted the days and you guys missed the window of opportunity or she just isn't ready. Gracie didn't take till her 17th day the first time she was bred and took on the 8th day the second time. |
Thanks so much. I thought that I was out of luck. I guess they will be getting back together tonight. Today made the 18th day. How long are they in heat for? He does hump a little but she screams sometimes. Anyone else have info on this topic? Please help me. |
I've always been told that a male will know before the female is when she's ready and fertile. Has she been taken in for a swab? By a vet taking a culture, they can analyze the cells on her cervix and determine when her most prime days are. |
you may have to hold her....scratch her back and see if she lifts her hind-end up....if she does, she is ready. if she does, then (you may need two of you) get your male up on her back and see if you can manipulate it into her. they may be two excited and just want to play so you might just need to interveen |
Question on the same issue,I own both the female and the male, the last time she came in heat, and she was too young, they figured out how to be bad teenagers, had 1 pup and a c section because of her age and only one pup,too big, now she is in heat again, its been7 months, and she should be ready, bleeding has stopped, swelling is huge, and the arent even trying, the male thought it was a great idea, yet she stopped the issue by growling and snapping, I figured she wasn't ready yet,but now she should be ready and they dont even try...is it possiable that she thinks its too soon after a c section, the vet says its fine,or is remembering she is the one that had to raise the puppy before and is not intrested in being a mommy again :aimeeyork, I know this sounds like a stupid question, but even the vet has no idea..any breeders here that can shed some light and ideas here :aimeeyork |
I would have thought that they would have "went at it"!!! lol But all he does is hump for a little while then stops. I guess we will see if they take. Is it possible that they could have done the deed at night? When is the best time for them to breed>? day or night? |
We watch to make sure nothing happens to our male Gizmo with every breeding. You can try seperating her for a few hours..somewhere were he can see her, but cant reach her. Sometimes that will excite them OR you can put a dog panty on her for a few hours. That one REALLY gets our Gizmo going. I worked at a kennel where they manually stimulated their males to get them started (that's as far as I am going with that one!). We've never done that though or even needed to go any farther than the panty thing! LOL I hope I helped! |
