Personality Predictions Question for all you seasoned Breeders out there: If I'm looking for a Yorkie pup with a sweet, affectionate personality...will this manifest itself at the 12 weeks old? I know all puppies are cute...but if I'm choosing from the litter...what do I look for when I visit the Breeder? Francie P.S. Y'all can hold down your snickering to a low roar...chuckling |
litter If you like the temperment of the parents..and other related Yorkies the breeder has is a good clue to what the temperment of the blood line will be. There are exception of course...look for a pup that settles when you pick it up..it may be running around, barking and playing, but when you pick it up, it should settle down and allow you to hold it. Good Luck |
Hi Francie...no I'm not snickering. I use the Volhard PAT test on my pups and I think you can probably find it with Google. The breeder should have a very clear idea of who is who and be able to match you up...or you can always come here for one of mine..: ) |
I can always tell the personality of my puppies at 12 weeks of age.. I try to always match the right puppy up with the best family for their personality.. By that time I can usually tell if they are going to be lovers and lap babies or are more independent and would rather be left alone! Good luck in your search!~ |

Pat...thank you for answering the silly question! And if they don't settle...that means they are super independent? Stacy...that is sooo sweet of you to offer (looking in my closet for an appropriate "Visit The Breeder Outfit"! ) When you say "match you up"...umm...what does that mean? Thomas the Truck Driver gets the Bully and Aunt Agnes gets Sweetpea? lol I'm kinda scared what breeders would pick out for me... Meanwhile..I'm going to Google Vohard Pat Test...so I look like I know what I'm doing...(Umm...sweetie...thats the KITTEN....put him down please) Francie :) |
I have a litter of 5 7week old pups and can already tell their personalities. I don't think they change much after that. Already 1 of the females thinks she has to be the alpha. So fun to watch them interact. :D |

Hmmm let's see...Wanted: highly intelligent, amiable pup that understands obscure literary references, and finds dry humor and sarcasm endlessly amusing....and doesn't meow. |
link to the test This site has the test and how to interpret the scores. I am veryy interested in finding out hosw my puppies will be. Of course right now they are all super cute, but mostly sleep...of course they are only 2 weeks old!!! http://www.workingdogs.com/testing_volhard.htm |

Lol....Sooo...the Stilettos and BCBG pencil skirt doesn't work? Omg...that poor pup...I don't think my partner could handle TWO smartasses...I already get WAY too many "was that comment necessary?" chuckling. One of us would be out the door...and this is a crazy guess...but I don't think it will be "Puddles"! Francie :cat: P.S. Disclaimer: I've never actually owned Stilettos and the day I fit into a slim pencil skirt...will be the day Tom Cruise medicates himself... |

Hey Francie I am not a breeder, but when I was looking for a puppy, I would try to turn the pups over on their backs for a belly rub. That shows that they would be submissive. Stewie turned over right away and enjoyed it. Another pup from a diff litter that the breeder was keeping bit me when I did it that to him. |
Love It!!! Quote:
