This might be too early to talk about AI...
 
So I was thinking...How do you get sperm from a dog (especially such a little thing) so AI's can be performed? I know it's easy for humans...send 'em in a room with some pics of hot girls and they take care of it themselves, horses mount a huge rubber thing, that works for them, but can you just get a little yorkie to go crazy on any 'ol thing so you can get their sperm? Thanks guys, I'm just confused!

hmmmm never had to give a stud a magazine and privacy, but they do ask for a cigarette when finished:)

actually a friend has done it many of time...ejacualtion is very quick with a good stud.

But I mean, do they use a "fake" yorkie for him to hump or what? I really am curious to know details. I'm not trying to be a psycho freak, just curious thats all.

Just like in other animals they use a female that is receptive (in season) to tease the male with. They usually collect with a sterile disposable bag.

OMG I can't stop laughing right now. When I saw the title of the thread with AI in it I assumed we were talking about American Idol again. Not Artificial Insemination. Way too funny!!!! :eyetearss :eyetearss

I believe it is usually done by a vet and I imagine they have the scent of a female to get him excited. And then a glove and a bag. maybe a condom. :) I suppose experienced breeders can do it at home, with the female right there to excite the dog.

I did not ask WHY or HOW but I do know that my Breeder made a comment about being able to do this at home before...Hopefully a breeder will answer your question.
