One puppy litters are the things overdrawn bank accounts aremade of. So often the mom is not stimulated into labor and needs a c-section. Never during the day but in the middle of the night when the ER charges $1200.00 and up for the surgery. Now you have a mom who is not bonded to a newborn for 24 hours and you sit with the sweet little one on your lap or in your bra a=or somewhere to keep it warm. All the time offering it back to mom who just is not quite ready to accept and care for it. I have found that one puppy litters are fairly common in Yorkies. At least the ones I have bred. It just happens. The puppy is huge while still nursing but will slow down growthwise after weaning..Health should not be an issue one way or the other.. |
I had a boxer and a Doberman they both had only one big puppy. |
I've heard of litters producing only one pup. My Gracie came from a litter of two but what reasons would you be worried for? |
I have had 2 litters with single pups. Both had live pups we did loose our recent one born breech cord ripped before he came out etc.. The only problem I have had is not good enough contractions to keep things going. Pups came out fine noone was too big, they just did not progress.Singleton litters need alot of attention for the have no siblings to play and interact with. Our last little boy was a little aggresive and fiesty which I do belive is common in single litters for they have no pecking order with their siblings, all they have is themselves.I have been lucky with our singleton litters my girls like to have babies during the day.Bless their hearts. |
My yorkie became pregnat at 9 months old, we thought her heat was over. Huge mistake! She had a c-sec at 11 months with only 1 puppy 6.3 oz. The puppy lived for 5 days, the vet thinks the puppy got tramatized by me not keeping her warm enough and then stopped nurcing, she spent her last 2 days at the vet and at night with us (my husband and i took shifts staying up all night). It was one of the sadest things we ever went threw. Now we want to breed her and we did and she didn't get pregnat and now she is having a false pregnacy. These yorkies are to much. Good luck with yours I think it will be just fine. Jeanne |

Was it the mother first litter? I've heard that first time Moms frequently only have one, especially if they bred her at a young age. Welocme to YT. |
