I think the idea in the original post shocked everyone. It gave me a knot in my stomach instantly. But there was an enlightened answer to what to do instead and I hope everyone thinks it was worth that original feeling of shock. I know there have been some horrible things that have happened to Yorkies that have been reported here and we all feel sick when we read them. This time something very helpful came out of it at least. |
WOW.......I read the posts in euthanizing. Jeanie I truly believe you asked the question for answers, definitely not to upset anyone. Anyone should feel they can ask any questions and not be attacked for asking the question. Like what was mentioned This is the breeders section and breeding does not always have happy endings or beginnings. Putting a puppy in the freezer is absolutely not acceptable to me, nor is another common old practice of drowning them. These are cruel means of "killing" a puppy, I certainly wouldnt call it euthanizing, nothing humane about those practices. It wasnt humane to make the poster feel bad about asking the question either and a couple of the posts were personal attacks. Even using the word stupid. This should be a support, learning section and most times it is. We all have opinions and we should be able to voice them without personal attacks. Thank God those practices are not accepted now!!!!! But We still practice tail docking and if you think about it, its really not humane........we take off a perfectly good tail for what reason? Because that is what is accepted to be okay in the breed. Not near as bad as putting a puppy in a freezer but still can be consider very cruel if you really think about it. Its accepted so no one attacks us for performing this procedure on an innocent puppy. |

But in general, I don't think this topic had to be discussed by the entire YT community. I think it would have been over in two posts if it was posted on a more private breeder forum. The initial question and YorkieRose's response. Instead, some people were repulsed by the idea and reacted honestly but emotionally. A lot of feelings were hurt for no good reason. This is likely to get me in more trouble, but I'm just being honest here. I compare what happened here to an abortion booth we have in the middle of the Alaska State Fair. I think abortion is a serious issue with excellent points raised on all sides of the issue. But I don't need to see pictures and movies when I'm eating a candy apple and walking with my 8-year-old nephew on the way to the horsey ride. But, again, sorry. I have a bad habit of lapsing into stereotypes, and you obviously don't fit into this one. |
I think the point to the whole story is when you put live pups in freezers to die they really dont die fast..as inplied. Im not saying anyone is bad im just saying its not right ot put them alive int he freezer. If you have a litter that you think a pup is bad your vet can give you a shot to administer to the pup at a certain point into the heart and it goes to sleep immediatly. I dont condone putting them in the freezer to die. And NO I think everyone should read what happens to pups along the way of breeding , if everyone knew they may be more selective in who they buy from. Culling is not a process a good breeder DOES. A GOOD BREEDER VERY RARILY CULLS. And the public should know this why hide it????????????????? |

Should there be an actual debate section on this forum for questions such as these that will more than likely strike the nerve of many of the members? I know that on the forum that I admin, we have one and it works quite well. When people enter into the debate section, they automatically think differently and let some questions slide a little more than what they'd let slide in other areas of the forum, if you get what I'm saying. This topic would have definitely fit the bill for a debatable topic! |

Thank you so much for your post, I think it is so important people see this. I didnt read that thread but I agree with everything you have said in your post and I have seen this happen with other questions that people have asked on here. We have to remeber that people are asking questions out of love and concern for animals and they have not had to privelage to know some of the stuff we know, so I strongly believe it is our job as yorkielovers or just dog lovers in general to educate people but to do it in a loving and welcoming way. |
