First Litter Hello Everyone. We have a yorkie who is pregnant with her first litter. We have some books and other useful information but would like to ask if anyone who has had experience with their yorkies first litter if they have any advise/tips regarding pregnancy,eg Her Diet , Actual Labour , Suppliments , etc.. Its her first litter , so want to get it right. She is a wonderful dog ,and we love her to bits..... Many Thx Paul & Claire Uk.England :animal-pa |
new Hi When is the litter due? I always suggest a good vet,, xray at 55 days or so. I feed mine puppy dry kibble mixed with a meat, canned or meat roll for canines. At 5 weeks I add cottage cheese..I do not give a suppliment such as calcuim until after whelping..it can cause the problems we are trying to prevent. A vitamin can not hurt. You might want to seach the archives, there are number of good threads on this subject..dozens of good suggestions...keep reading and asking questions. Best wishes |
First Litter Thx for reply Pat Litter is due around 4/6th of April. have had a look through posts tonight and found some useful posts. She is 5 weeks and 1 day , do you no at what part of her pregnancy she could miscarriage , or can it be at any time (God Forbid).. Thx again Paul :animal-pa |
litter With dogs it is a bit different. If they lose a pup before birth most often it reabsorbs or is born dead. I realize anything is possible but I have never had one actually miscarry a pup and then go on to deliver the rest of the litter at 9 weeks. I have had friends who bitches delivered too early and lost the litter..but these things do not happen routinely for me..infact I have lost few litters or had them born too early..so try to relax and read all you can. Feel free to PM any breeder, all are very helpful. |
Oh gosh...the only thing I can recall that I didn't prepare enough for was CLEAN TOWELS...you have no idea how many you will go through...and get some cheap ones or old ones and just throw the darn things away! |
Hi Paul & Claire, Good Luck and Congrats! We just had our first puppies and this board was really my godsend and lifesaver! I followed all the tips and timing etc from this board and the pups and mom are all good so far! Vivian |
