Piddle pads, HELP!!!!! Okay - I had such lofty ideas!! I was going to piddle pad train my litters and put use a litter box and have them well on their way to littler box training or at least piddle pad training when they go off to their new homes!! But :idontknow !! I need some advice!! I have read all the techniques and it's not like I just put these in there with them so it's not new - but they think they are just the greatest toy ever invented!! All the little ropes and little squekies and everything and they want to tear up their potty pads!!! And they are even better (they think) once they have some pee or poop on them!! Any tricks, ideas, any advice at all is extremely WELCOME and NEEDED!! Or do I just have the craziest puppies ever???? They are so cute and it is VERY entertaining but this does not help with any kind of manners at all!! :D  :D  :D |
Have you tried a pad holder or a litter box? Max also thought that pee pads were his chew toys when I tried to use them with him. First, I tried a pad holder (it looks like a plastic picture frame that goes around the pad) to keep it in place but he tried to chew that as well. Ieven spreyed the holder with bitter apple!! Then I bought a doggie litter box but used the pads in the box rather than the dog litter. He thought that I purchased him a new bed because he chose to lay in the litter box with his chew toy to pass the time. The pads in the litter box however, worked wonders with Abbie. In a very short time, she was pad trained. However, she wouldn't use the pads if they were not in the litter box. Eventually she preferred to go outside and just stopped using the pads. I heard that some dogs do well with dog litter. Maybe if they keep ripping up the pads try the dog litter (I think it's called yesterday's news.) |
We have one pooch that won't leave the piddle pad alone. We did purchase a holder for them and on most occations it works. If we happen to be gone for more than 4 hours , when we return it's ripped to shreds. However, this is our shih tzu. She probably has more strength than your babies. You could also try masking tape and tape it to the floor. |
Thanks for your reply. I haven't tried the holder yet. I did put a pd in the litter box and then taped it down securely and the little boogers still pulled it up!!! I have the litter for my adults who are litter box trained but these guys want to put everything in their mouths right now so I am a little afraid of putting that in with them just yet! And I don't want to take them out just yet they still haven't had even their first shots - they're seven weeks old. I think I will go get a holder and try that! :D |
I have 7 week old puppies that have been using the pee pads since about 5 weeks old... (they saw mom use it... not me... their mom :D ). They are getting better and better about using them.... only the rare poop in the corner of the xpen (by one of the males)... otherwise they are all good with the pee pads and rarely use it as a toy. I also think this litter is just a GOOD group of pups! (compared to some of the litters I've had in the past... not me... the yorkie moms! :D ). With time they learn. Good luck. :) |

I wish mine would!! Too funny though - I hope it was the mom :D :D I am hoping that the pad holder will help!! |
