I have a couple questions??? Sorry to be posting already with questions but I need some advise. As you all may have read Shelbie had puppies (5) on Feb 10th. I have a heating pad on the bottom of her box with a towel over it. Well the question is why in the world does Shelbie keep taking it out. She will work and work till she gets it uncovered and then climbs out of her box and pulls and pulls till she gets it over the edge. Everytime she does this it upsets the puppies. They will be sleeping soundly and then she starts in. Is there a reason she keeps doing this? The heating pad is only on warm so I know it's not getting to warm. I even went and bought another one thinking that there was something maybe wrong with the other one. She does it with both. Question #2 is Shelbie is eating very well since having her puppies, I am cooking her meals. Chicken,Cottage Cheese, Eggs and basically anything I think is good for her. Problem is she now will not touch her puppy foood that the Vet recommended for good milk production. Should I continue cooking for her while she is nursing? She is still very thin to me. Thanks for any help or suggestions!! |
post I answered under the other post...and yes..with 5 pups feed her anything and everything she wants, anytime she wants. |
1. Make sure the heating pad is on LOW. and only half way in the box so mommy and pups can get off if they choose. If all else fails get a heating lamp. 2. Keep her eating with what she will eat. Maybe you can sneek in a little puppy food. :aimeeyork |
Maybe she is getting to warm and trying to make it cooler. I would feed her every thing she has been eating try mixing the other food with the food shes not eating. |
I think your all right I moved the heating pad to only cover half of the box and that seems to have done the trick, atleast for now! I have noticed that she doesnt want to leave the babies to eat so I have started putting her food right beside her bed and she will get up and eat. She does go out long enough to potty and it's right back in like lightening. I have to say for my 1st time EVER having puppies Shelbie is a wonderful mother. Although I would never want to do this again. I am alot more nervous than Shelbie is, I think! This afternoon she did come to me without any persuasion and got in my lap for a little "Shelbie Time". She got a bath, blow dry and brushed for about 30 minutes and she seemed to love getting her share of the attention. I will keep you all updated on the babies and post more pics very soon. Thank you all, Migualla,Shelbie and babies |
