I have 3 new pups. Need to talk to any breeders out there.
 
I have 4 yorkies - 2 male and 2 female. One of my females just had 3 pups yesterday. I'm not sure which of the males is the sire because we hadn't intended for her to be bred this soon. There is only one problem with this situation - one of the sires is also the father of the momma that just had pups ! Is that confusing enough for you ?!? I know that this shouldn't have happened and it was just due to ignorance on my part. Now my questions - are there any health problems that can result from this inbreeding, how can I find out which sire is the father, and does it really matter since pups can't be registered ( momma isn't but sire is)?? I am also planning on spaying/neutering the pups so they don't pass on any potential health problems. Can anyone please help me and give me some advice on this matter? I would greatly appreciate any input you have. Thanks !!

Hi and welcome to YT.

I would have the pups and the males DNA'd and then you will know.

A Little Breeder Advice
 
When raising any dogs you must be careful to prevent unplanned breedings. Not that it hasn't happened to the best of us. But we must try our hardest not to let it happen again. Inbreeding is tricky. I personally don't do it. You really have to know your lines VERY WELL. You should have them DNA'd for your knowledge. You might ask your vet for help. I hope this didn't sound like a lecture, that was not my intentions. Good Luck and Welcome to YT. :wavey:

Please monitor the puppies health closely for any health issues due to this type of breeding. If you plan to keep them spay/neuter them. If you plan to sell them, sell them on spay/neuter contracts. And here is where the "Responsible Breeder" part comes, do your best to learn from your mistakes and try your very best not to let it happen again. :thumbup:

Breeding father to daughter does not mean that there will be health issues with the pups. This is the preferred method of inbreeding (when done)... father to daugher or mother to son (you shouldn't breed brother to sister).

You can have the pups DNA'd. Ask your vet about this.

More than likely they will be just fine. Best of luck with your new puppies!!

I know of intentional such breedings with okay results. I know of OOPS! that did not turn out so good.. Watch the babies closely and make sure you keep the right babies with the right mom. Then, look for a reliable private lab to do the DNA tests on the babies and males and sort them out IF this is an issue. If the puppies are going to be placed in pet homes (as IMO they should be), I would sell them without papers and make sure you follow up and see to it that they are spayed and neutered. They are your responsibility to keep healthy and if another related OOPS breeding happens, they can still run into problems.

Thanks for all the good advice. Sadly, one of the puppies died this morning. Not sure what happened, but he was dead when I got up this morning to go to work. The other 2 are doing really well. They are back up to there birth weight and very active. I appreciate all the advice !

Thanks everyone for all the good advice. Unfortunately, we lost 1 pup so we are down to 2 now. But those 2 are doing really well. They are up to 12 oz now ( 8 oz at birth) and a week old today ! Again, thanks for all of the good advice. :animal36
