puppy eyes.... Has anybody had a litter of pups where all but ones eyes are completely open? I dont know if it's because he's sooooo fat but the biggest pups eyes i about half shut....were making an appoitmant for Monday....Has this ever happened to you? He looks a sharpei and stoned.... LOL |
Well my biggest pup was the last one to open her eyes but only by a day. :D How far behind is yours? |
Are the slits not open 100%? If so, you can take a cotton ball with warm water on it...squeeze out excess...and very gently wipe the eyes. |
well i swear they were open all the way the other day...this pup is friggin huge though. he actually has fat on his eye lids...... |
Usually the pups I have open their eyes within a day of each other. The male in my Wilma's litter (born 1-13-06) opened his eyes 4 days after his sister... and he is the biggest of the two (a little chunky). I agree to use a cotton ball soaked in warm water to wash out their eyes. I had to do this for the female a few days after her eyes opened as one of her eyes closed back up. ;) |
We had one that opened his eyes later, but only by 2 days. You said they had been completely open? I really don't know what to tell you if that is the case. I am sure you've already done this, but make sure the 'fat' on his eyelids is not really swelling from some sort of infection. :) |

I have a female that when she was trying to open her eye one of the other pups scratched it and now we are in a big mess she is now 8 weeks old and will have to have surgery to open it all the way, when it was scratched it got infected and caused it to never open right, So now I am putting Artifical Tears in it 3 times a day and plus her Anitbotic Cream 4 times a day, My Vet cannot do surgery until she gets big enough and she only weighs 1.4 at 8 weeks so pray she will get bigger soon or she could go blind in that eye. I'm not saying this happened to yours but I wanted to share the story so if anyone else had this prob to have the Vet check it ASAP. Kristi |
