Newborn bedding Hi everyone, this is a 2 part question here, one to breeders and one to who ever can answer :) I had several carpet remnants years ago. I placed them in my whelp boxes for my babies and mommys. I've long since used them all up and believe me, they needed to be thrown away. I'm totally out of them and am having a hard time locating a place to get them. Reason I ask is because I have tons of blankies...fleece, cotton, terry, all sorts. My babies always do the loosey goosey and squirm up under them. Mom also likes to do her diggity dig thing. So every few minutes I am constantly making sure the babies aren't under the blankies, which they do at times. I keep the heat pad UNDER the box, not in it. It still can get really WARM/HOT without something between their little bodies and the plastic box. So, my question is this, do any of you breeders have an alternative that you use instead of the carpet remnants, or can anyone tell me a good starting point to find some? I'm getting to the point where I am going to be buying up rolls of carpet for 100's of bucks just to CUT IT ALL UP! Thanks |
Hi Robbie, I'm sure you've tried all the carpet shops. Have you tried Lowes or Home Depot? Sometimes I use bath mats under them. :) |
Yes, have called carpet shops. No luck at this time. They act as if I'm not being truthful or somthing, like i'm looking for a hand out! Makes me mad! But bath mats hadn't crossed my mind,,,,thanks Jan! |

GO to your carpet store and ask them if they are selling any of their samples-- when carpets get discontinued they will sell the little 2x3 square for like a buck here....I carpeted my kids play house with them...I would think most do that..... |
bedding Usually carpets stores have plenty..some give them away. I use the small size wee-wee pads..they are 17X20..easy to wash. |
I use egg crate mattress matts and cut them the shape of the bottom of the box. Then I get a pillow case protector and then put a pillow case on it. This is super easy to clean up I flip it the first time - because the bottom side is clean and then the next time I just change the pillow case. It fits snug in the box so nobody can get caught in between the pad and the wall, you know like you would make sure that a mattress is snug in a babies crib. It works well for me so I thought I'd share. :D :D |
I use the pish pads cut to size to fit the whelping box. They are sort of felted on the top and absorbant, but backed with a kind of plasticy stuff so they stick to the plastic box kind of non-slip and are almost impossible for the moms to dig at(mine don't even try anymore). You can stack a few on top of each other and it's easy clean up when you just pull the soiled one off the top and there is a fresh one right there. Machine washable....love them. www.pishpad.com developed by Maltese breeders near here. |
Thanks bunches Reagan, Stacy, and Pat. Lots of good ideas here for me. I've got to get something tomorrow. I can't take another nite of checking every few minutes to make sure they aren't under their blankie. It's truly driving me crazy and depriving me of sleep! Thanks you guys :) |
Stacy, I just went to pishpad website and I think I'm sold on that. Thanks so much. I had never seen that before. Thanks :o |

I do really like the stuff and use it in all my crates and under ex-pens. Poops pick right off the stuff and liquid kind of wicks away...keeps messes minimum...lots less trash, though you really do have to line dry them...I found that the liner part on the back will hold moisture in the folds in the dryer. I always use a little odo ban in the wash cycle and let them soak for about an hour before washing...they come out like new and I've had some for months. |
I have a suggestion - instead of remnants - you can ask Carpet Stores for Carpet SAMPLES - they don't shred and are just the right size - I use them for lots of things and some stores will give them away or sell them when an item is no longer available or they change out their displays..... Ooooops - I see I just repeated Gymbo - GOOD advise Jim lol - :D |
Robbie, I have been using those washable pish pads. You can get the large size and cut them according to your needs. Hope the gang are doing well! |
Oh man I think I'm gonna have to get some of those!! What an excellent product!! I think I am sold as well!! :D Quote:

Robbie, My cousin is a carpet installer and he would love to give his pieces away!! You just need to find out who the carpet stores installers are. They come back at the end of a job and drive around to the back of the store and dump them in the dumpster.. Go to a small carpet store and ask to speak to one of their installers (might be a sub contractor) Good luck!! :p |
Went to that site. Silly question. Looked at the pish pad. Is that the same material as the drawer liners . Not the contact paper. But they have some rolls that are like that. Cut it up in size and none slip. gina |
