I need your help YT! I've been thinking about getting a 2nd yorkie. The thing is though, I want him/her to be just like TeeJay (to the way his personality is to the way he looks) The only way I think I can achieve this is by breeding him. Now here's the problem: I do not know anything about breeding. Also, where do I go to find him a girl yorkie? I'm not going to do anything until I do my research and find out EVERYTHING about breeding. I was just curious to know how to find him a mate? I was seriously thinking of posting a new thread asking if there were any single female yorkies out there that want a boyfriend. lol. Also, if you do not think this is a good idea, please let me know as well. I need all the feedback I can get. Thanks guys! |
No guarantees! Even if you bred your pup, there is no way in the world you would be sure you would get another that even closely resembles him in either looks or personality! Remember there are many dogs in his lineage, and way back to the origins of the yorkie. All of these looks/mannerisms have a genetic availability to be reflected in your pups. :aimeeyork You need to really really study and research :eyeballpc whether or not you truly want to be a breeder. I am not one, nor do I have any inclination to be one at this time, and mostly due to some of the heartbreaks I have read here in these threads. You would learn much just by visiting the breeder site here, and reading for hours. You would also need to have your dog medically tested and perhaps evaluated by a reputable breeder to see if he should be bred. I know you will be getting a LOT of responses here, (everyone who questions breeding usually does, lol) so please do your homework! And after all that, if you still want to breed, hope you are successful in your quest. But unless you are CLONING, you have very little chance of your goal, in my opinion, and even then, personalities develop on their own and in different ways. :p |
Perhaps you should read this thread to help you better understand what breeding entails. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30556 |
There are pages and pages of threads in the breeder's section from people asking the exact same thing as you. Please go through those pages and read up on them. |
Why don't you go back to the breeder and see if you can get another from his line. When I got Meg, I wanted another just like her. Well , I got Murph as a private rescue ; he is nothing like beautiful Meggie(he's cute, though) I love them both , and appreciate the contrast in temperments. It is fun to have a princess girl and a silly boy... really... you just adapt to what you have and anyway, my experience from doing rescue work , is that they adapt pretty quickly to you and your style.I have 2 fosters right now , alll 3 dogs are very different , but I always notice how the fosters change to be more like my 2> similarly , when we get rescues in , we hear ... "they don't like this and they don't do that and they bit my kid and so on... then after awhile it becomes very apparent that they were reacting to the situation and the owner. My advice , do your research , don't buy from a pet store , go to a reputable breeder who can help you find what you are looking for... and don't breed ... breeding without proper knowlege is called backyard breeding and is a big cause of unwanted , and unhealthy dogs.Let the experts do their job. You will never be able to duplicate your little man. And I agree with the other replies, Do your homework. Or go back to the breeder you got him from. There is so much involved when breeding any purbred dogs, especially Toy breeds. :animal36 |
i agree with others. there's a lot that goes into breeding. lots of considerations, time, effort, money, etc etc. you've been directed to a lot of good information, so do your research. but if your intentions are to have another one whose temperament is like your current yorkie now, i would think it's better to go back to the original breeder and see what she has available, or just visit other breeders with litters and take the time to find one with the temperament you like. good luck. |
