Heating pads How many use heating pads in your nursery? If so, how long before taking it away? :questione |
pads I put a pad under the bed..not inside it. The time of year depends on how long...I have used a pad until 12 weeks and longer for a tiny in the winter in Maryland. |
I use them and am also curious as to how long most people use them. Mine are on the lowest temperature and only in one corner so that they can easily move if they get too warm. Sometime around 3-4 weeks they start to be able to regulate their own body temps better and it won't be necc., I am still using mine and they will be three weeks tomorrow - they still love to nestle up in that corner. It is just slightly warmer than the rest of the box. :D Don't know if this helps at all. :p Being that it is still winter I will probably use them until they start staying out of that corner. :D By the way the pads are under the box and the floor of the box is covered. :D |
I bought a heating pad 3 years ago when my first female was due to give birth... I have since had numerous litters with my females and have never used it.... I assume "mom's heat" is enough... I never had any problems... Probably the opposite... My females are out in the sunroom... I had to put curtains up on the sliding glass doors recently because where my Wilma is positioned with her pups in an xpen... she gets alot of sun during some parts of the day... I thought she was going to have a heat stroke! My Lucy also has pups (her and Wilma gave birth 3 days apart)... but she is away from the sun in the same room. I guess it all depends on how warm your home is and what time of the year it is... Plus I guess I do things differently than most... my female moms do not go outside when they are nursing... they use the pee pads... so they are always around their pups. |
We use a heating pad till around 6 weeks but we have VERY mild winters in South Texas....84 degrees today! :D |

My girls don't go outside either they use litter boxes :D |
My two puppies are 7 weeks old and I just removed the heating pad from under their bed this past week-end. Of course, it was NOT always turned on as we had some warm days here in MD. |
I also use these Under half of the whelping box so pups/mom can wiggle on or off as needed. I continue using them under the pups sleeping crate when they are older since we have some chilly nights in Pa this time of year and I don't ever want to see shivers. |
Stacy, I forgot to say that is what I do. Works well for me and what ain't broke don git fixt heer! LOL |
yes, like you guys I use them on one half of the box. has worked great in the past. i keep them on med. heat at night and low during day hours. drives me bonkers cause i'm constantly running and putting my hand in the box to make sure its not too hot or too cold :) |
