early neurological stimulation
 
I have been reading on early neurological stimulation and have been doing this with my pups - starting at day three. I was just curious to see if anyone else uses this and if you have noticed any difference in litters using this verses not using this. What I have read so far is very impressive. It's Breeding 101.....I've been doing this for many years and find it an essential tool for quality puppy development.

:D Yorkierini, I found a good site that can explain it better than I can www.breedbetterdogs.com :D It's basically a series of things you do to stimulate puppies starting when they are very young and it improves so many things from circulation to socialization. I know some breeders especially with tempermental breeds are finding it essential in better dog temperment and making them easier to handle. :D Sorry I don't know how to make the site address a link. :p

Ive been doing this but didnt know it had a name......lol.
We handle puppies right from the start, sometimes Ive questioned if we handle them to much in the early stage!
But I beleive touching and interaction is so powerful and positive. I do beleive early interaction makes a big difference. I really think it helps a puppy be people lovers, because they have had gentle touching and been talked too and they know nothing but good things from the experience from humans.

The loving interaction is important, but the point of ENS is to basically subject pups to mild discomfort/stress to stimulate hormonal, adrenal and pituitary systems so they are better able to withstand stress as adults.

Whoops guess I missed some vital points there.

I guess I havent been practicing this kind of ENS just the touch and talk interaction, the only discomfort they get is from vaccines, wormers they hate the taste from and cleaning rears from the dreaded occasional poop plug....haha

I have a hard time with the thermal part and figure my fingers are usually icy enough to produce enough of a response...lol.

I begin neurological stimulation at 2 weeks old and have on every litter (except for the cold I do not do). Beyond the neuro standardly my pups have daily belly rubs, paw rubs and ear rubs and eye rubs. Then I add simple grooming at three weeks "ears, nails and bum shaves and light brushing." By six weeks they are introduced to water, simple baths, hair dryer, and ear cleaning; by the time the pups leave they're so accustom to the human touch and all the fussing that comes along with it:)

I think it was about 10 years ago I read the concept and procedures of this "bringing up puppy!" The article I read was a program that was to prepare pups for service dogs and security types of dogs...I have used parts of it. I do not do the cold other than my icy hands..
